DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi all

Just introducing myself.

I've bought myself a bit of a project bike to give me something to do during the lockdown.

Its a 1982 GS1100GX without all the touring kit, its not in bad nick, but it's not brilliant.

So my plan is to give it a bit of a refresh and pimp it up a bit.

I'm in Leicestershire UK.

Got a few other bikes (Honda CBR600, Kawasaki Z1, Yamaha Super Tenere and KTM Superduke 1290 GT).

Kev

Welcome aboard! :encouragement:

Wouldn't mind seeing pics of the Kaw and KTM.

Welcome to the site, Kev.
Ditto on pics of the riding stable.
A buddy has a 1290 GT and i have ridden a 1290 R a couple times. Not sure i would still have my license if i owned either of them.:)

Thanks

Tried to upload a few pics, but it refuses to do it. Maybe there is a size limit or something? Any tips appreciated.

The 1290GT is a seriously powerful bike if you want to be a hooligan, but surprisingly enough it is also a really comfortable bike 2 up and easy to ride sensibly.

Welcome!

imgur.com is a good site for uploading pictures, then you just choose the "from URL"-tab on the picture thing, and it will show (and that lets you do high res too). Some prefer flickr (but its a bit fancy smanchy and requires an account I think).

I wish I had an adventure bike.

THanks for intro Kev.

Did you mean 1100GK ....?

Pictures would be good.
Is best to host pictures on some other site like Imgur or Flickr or a few others, then use what they call their "share" function to copy the BBCode (maybe called IMG code), and paste that in your posting, will then show up as the photo image.

Welcome to TheGSR.

Quite right its a GS1100GK not a GX. Glad one of us is paying attention.

Trying to post a pic of the KTM, others will follow if it works.

Yes it's a Z1B but a '74 model. It had a full nut and bolt restoration in 2007 by RWHS in Market Drayton. I bought it from them a few years ago. It's pretty much stock.

Exceptional bikes there. Thanks for posting pics.

Pyrenees

Pyrenees

THe only time I ever expect to see the Pyrenees is when watching Tour DeFrance on TV.

Yep that is a GK (not regular G), I can see the extra gussets on downtubes for the fairing mounts. I have reason to suspect that is not a stock GK front end, maybe a G front end. I mention this only since the GK front end has larger diameter fork tubes (41mm not 37?38?) and fork tubes are spaced further apart (effecting tripple clamps, headlight mounting and front fender), and such might effect parts selctions, such as fork seals.

Yes it's a Z1B but a '74 model.

I'm a little confused. I thought a '73 (what I owned) was just a plain Z1, '74 an "A," '75 a "B," and a '76, a KZ. 1977 brought the KZ1000.

I also thought '73s and '74s came with black engines.

Yep your correct, it's a 1974 Z1A not a B. I think some of the early 74's came with the black engine, but they changed this because the paint kept coming off.

Wow, super impressed with that.

I thought it was a GK because of the fairing mounts (well that and the fact it said GK on the side). But this might explain something. I bought some s/s brake lines for a GK and they don't fit. The bottom hoses for the front are OK but the top one is about 100mm too long. Also I did a search on the forum and the consensus was the front bearings were 45mm diameter whereas mine are 42mm, although the Wemoto ones were also 42mm and fit fine, so I could just be getting paranoid. I've bought some fork seals so I'll let you know when they don't fit lol. The Wemoto brake disks also don't fit but I think that was just a cock up from their end.

I can certainly recommend the Pyrenees to anyone on this side of the pond who hasn't tried it. We ship the bike down to Barcelona and pick it up from there so it saves the 900mile motorway boredom.
