    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Now that I have new rear forks: sidestand too short

I have new rear springs I mean (front forks, rear spring...damn motorcycle terminology...)
and now the sidestand is way too short...5 cm or so...

what are the alternatives ? weld it a bit longer ?
or are there "sidestand replacements" out there ?

I doubt that there are side stand replacements, which will solve your problem. You could alter a used one to accommodate you needs. If you changed to a different profile ( taller ) tire it may help a bit. Good luck.

What about welding a piece of metal stock to the bottom of the kick stand to extend it?
 
Like an aluminum hockey puck.
Chris has one on his 850, it's worked fine on two continents so far.
 
OR...An aluminum block spacer at the frame. Drill the holes and get longer bolts and place the spacer between the frame and the stands original mounting plate.
 
Without checking the parts fiche, I am fairly certain that '80-83 are the same.
I have a couple of spares and I could take pic's of one of them next to a GS 750-1100 one.
They mount outside of the frame stock versus the 2-valves mounting under the frame between exhaust tubes..
I had to install one on Goldy due to the tighter/longer head-pipes of the 1100E.
I think that you can almost see it in one of today's pic's:

Here you go! It is actually 1.5" longer than the stock GS 750-1100 kickstand.
But, if it is installed in the stock mount, it is 1" longer on the ground due to the angle.

yeah i switched to that straighter style kickstand and also cut a piece of 1/4" steel and drilled holes to sit between the frame and kickstand mounting plate.
 
Nice, thanks for the info. I have a block on mine but I like the stock look better...

Hockey puck works "ok". It doesn't slide on the concrete well so sometimes you have to manipulate it with your foot to get the bike to settle.
 
Reviving this thread, as I have the same problem.

I bought a GS1100E stand, but the spring mounts to the other side of the stand. Did you guys replace the whole frame mount as well? I'd like to avoid that if possible.

If it's as simple as drilling a hole that's easy enough, I just am not sure that I'm not missing something easy. Maybe if anyone has a picture of how the spring is supposed to go?
