If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

This is a great forum and source of information. It is unfortunate that offensive material is making it's way into threads.

If you have any naked or semi naked females for an avatar please don't reply to my threads.

I recommend the threads for info but can no longer do so because of some offensive material being posted. I would however like to be able to recommend my own threads without worry about what they may see or read.

let's have some respect for our sister riders and be aware of the younger enthusiasts.

I agree. (Too dumb to even know how to install an avatar.)
Let's keep our minds on the bikes guys. :)

Unless you let it rest it will start again. The matter was closed before this thread was posted.

Actually it was addressed and already started up again. I tried to deal with it quietly but that didnt work.

I know that this may stir up some "oh yeh, how do you like this" kind of attitude but it needed to be said.

and this is all I am going to say on the matter.

The avatars were artwork, not even real pics, this is like saying a Rubens painting

is offensive material.

this is like saying a Rubens painting is offensive material.

Myself, I am in favor of free speech/expression, but remember, it is in the eye of the beholder. Not everybody will see it the same way. I have never been offended by anything I have seen here, but there are many different viewpoints and since we really are here for the bikes, some restraint to avoid stepping on toes may be necessary. I am sure we can all get along on this minor (to me, anyway) issue and save the arguing for the really important things, like oil type and brand. :)

Just because it is painted or penciled doesn't make it art suitable for everyone.

Interesting statement, would you take your children to the Louvre or not for that reason? Can you give me an example of painted nudity both of a offensive and non-offensive variety?

This thread should be in off-topic btw.

its not about "freedom of speech" or "art" it is about common courtesy and respect for the feelings and beliefs of others.

having enough courtesy to not display offensive material will not in any way rune your day, but it will definitely brighten someone else's

so instead of arguing why not just be considerate??

I'll go with that. The only problem is: who is going to define for me what is considered offensive and what isn't. Something that might think is normal, might be offensive to me.
Robinjo's avatar could be considered as just a nice image; or it could be viewed as some statement of the idea that women are submissive to men or should hide themselves.

Talk about God or Allah or what you'd like to call him to one person is something positive and has a healing feeling to it; to someone else it might be hurtful or to the very least could cause the feeling of being disrespected for their atheist ways.

Nudity like that Rubens to some might be too much nudity; to others there's nothing wrong with seeing a nude body....

Again: who can tell me where the limits of offensiveness is in these situations?
Sofar I haven't seen anything on this forum that I haven't seen a million times before in videoclips on MTV, newsreports and reality shows of some sort....

Maybe, when you see something that you don't appreciate, it might be easier to just assume that eventhough it might not be to your taste, it doesn't mean that the person posting that entry or image or avatar is out to hurt your feelings or offend you in any way but accept that it's just a matter of a different idea on what you think is appropriate and what isn't and just leave it at that?

This is about content. Calling it art doesn't justify anything. That's like calling a honda a suzuki.

I am not going to debate what is art because it is subjective. Nudity is nudity and it affects men. That is why sex and the female form is everywhere in advertising..why?? because men like it.

Because it is old and painted doesn't make it any better. Men havent changed in 6000 years. WE are visual creatures that enjoy the female form so don't pass me this "it's art" business. It isn't the brush strokes you are enjoying.

The moral line is so blurred for our young people they don't know what to think. My young nephew thought is was ok to sware while singing because it was in the song. wrong is wrong and calling it art doesn't change that.

nudity invokes a response from men no matter how much you would like to disguise it.

if someone wants to look, lear or gaze at nude woman that is their business but don't force me or others who don't appreciate it to.

What one calls art another calls child porn. Where is the line??? It changes like the jet stream every day. Not in my house. For my family the line is no nudity. It is clear and easy to understand and doesn't move. The kids know where they stand and where we stand.

Men look at nude woman because they enjoy it. It doesn't honor our wives, daughters sons, girlfriends or families so why do it? For selfish enjoyment. The only one this activity benefits, if you can say that, is the men. This activity is harmful to relationships not helpful or benigne. It sends a very wrong message to our daughters about what men like.

There is plenty of art about that isn't nudity...like.....

being in a visious tankslapper through an S-turn, getting knocked off your bike twice, recovering and wheeling out of the exit in the lead....now thaaaaaaat is art.

scantally clad woman only make us men think of what is being covered....be HONEST...with yourself. If we(men) weren't so pre-ocupied with the female form it wouldn't be everywhere.

If it turns up on a tv show we change the channel, if it is in a rented movie we take it back for another. We don't have to put up with it if we don't want to and maybe...maybe our children will take the ball and change things a little more.

nudity art or otherwise has no place on a family forum.

If someone post something that someone finds offensive it is an easy fix. Let them know (as I did) so they may change it. If they don't then there is always the choice not to participate.

This didn't have to turn into a big song and dance....It was a simple request...."no nudity on my thread please". The only respnonse should have been OK. I didn't run out to the morality police I contacted the person privately and asked for a change without response.

If you want to talk, show or participate in this kind of thing go ahead...open a thread for it keep it where people know what is going on so they can choose to stay away. Not on my thead is all I asked.

Calling it art doesn't fool the woman around you and it sure doesn't fool the guys.

The only thing it does is try and justify something inside the one looking.

Do you see what you have done now??? NO MAN'S forum should be talking about the hearts and insides of anything that isn't machanical

NOW THAT YOU ALL THINK I HAVE SPUN A BEARING, This is a bike forum,

and the only naked frames I want to see in my theads are GS's.

Thanks for your support!

Good reasoning from my prudish point of view. i like the idea of respect. Go out of our way to ensure that we do not offend on this website if it is possible.
Replys and opinions are ok though . Watch it or ill post a nude photo of 1100ed 8O :( :(

I can almost guarantee that there are a few here that would find Katman's censorship pretty offensive in and of itself, probably even more offensive than Katman finds the female body.

The avatar in question had such low resolution that in order to complete the nude "picture" (it was a satirical cartoon) you had to rely on your imagination. What I'm trying to say is that katman has set the threshold for crying TITillating (sorry, caps key again ) incredibly low. Where does it end? So if one of the female members wants to post a picture of herself in a halter top or swimsuit that would be Verboten? Sorry but the reasoning sounds alot like that used by the Mullahs in Iran where women are assaulted for letting their ankles show in public.

Maybe you guys should just get rid of the avatars altogether.

Why is this topic in Performance Mods?

If standards here are slipping I'm sure the Moderators will handle it.

I think that all the man requested was that any of his threads be respected in a particular manner. It isn't a rule but a request which we may choose to respect or ignore.

Katman made a simple public request. He does not intend to censor anyone. How can he do that, even if he wanted to?

I doubt if Katman finds the female body offensive at all. I can certainly understand his request, particularly the line about being at work while browsing this site, and the possibility that one of his co-workers may find something offensive.

I find Katman's request reasonable and rational. On the other hand, I find some responses to be just the opposite. Just my opinion...
