One comment before this turns completely into the age-old Freudian dispute of shaft vs. chain. The browser Opera allows you to turn off the loading of JPEG images, hence NO AVATARS. I know, it addresses the symptom and not the cause but maybe it's enough to make this go away.

Personally I've found the dancing pickles to be a little to sexually suggestive.... :lol:

I skipped a whole lot of the posts in this thread because I basically got the point. Heres what I have to say to Mr Katman.

Dont EVER EVER come to the ART museum where I work. 50 feet inside the door is a statue of a NAKED lady and a wolf. It was done by a WOMAN artist. On our european floor there are numerous paintings dating back several hundred years that contain nude people as well as several more statues. On our Asian floor we have artwork dating back several THOUSAND years that also contain some nudity. Now before you say so what (if you are even reading this) you should know that every Monday through Friday during the school year we have several hundred school children from K through 12 taking tours here.

You seem to be trying in several of your posts to state that some of the avitars weren't art. I beg to differ with you, as I believe that you wouldnt know real artwork from a hole in the ground.

Now I understand that you may not like to observe semi nude or nude avitars. That is your choice. But as for what is and isnt ART is a subject you should leave to someone more knowledgable than you.

I think you have this backwards. Unless an animal is sick, animals kill for one reason, and that is self preservation. Meaning either in self defense or for food. Humans are the only species on the planet that have the WILL to kill for no reason.

Second: there are many animals that kill for more then just "self defense or for food". Many animals will kill merely to show dominance, to be able to mate with the other animal?s female, because the animal doesn't like the way the other animal looks, etc etc..

For example the gorilla, a younger male will often kill the dominant male in order to take leadership rites over the group. "The new leader of a group will often kill unrelated infants."

Finally: I take umbrage at your insinuation, "ART is a subject you should leave to someone more knowledgeable than you." I realize that your intent was to degrade katman, but this statement inherently insults and demeans any man who is not of the "new class." If katman doesn't possess the intellegence to determine the artistic value of any given propagation, then no man does.

Ok...OK. You finally succeeded where others failed. I have a passing-fair vocabulary, but I could not understand what you could possibly mean by the "artistic value of any given propagation".

I know words can change in meaning, so I actually opened a dictionary 8O 8O to see what new meaning "propagation" might have....and then I opened another one. Yes, I do have current editions, but, sad to say, I am no further ahead.

Jay spoke in generalities, not specifics, and your words do not reduce the value of his, but actually support them. Now, with the words "in general" in mind, please re-read what you wrote, and look at how your words work to support JayB.

Well you see, My bike was running great, as a matter of fact, it was running much better than any bike I'd ever ridden. Then I decided to fix it. While I was fixing it, something else broke, then fixing that I broke something else. Next I got mad and pulled out a hammer, screaming "I'll show you this time!", when my buddy came over and said I was doing it all wrong and started to do the work himself. Then I tried to fix what he fixed, only to realize I was just making it worse.

Now I'm sitting here in my garage, my bike is in pieces and I can't remember what I wanted to fix first, let alone how my bike got in the state it's in, but I know that nothing will ever fit together again and I can't enjoy it any more because it will never be the same, much less better than it used to be. Of course I do have a manual, but would it be worth it? A new bike sure is sounding nice right now.

ALL I WANT IS A BIKE TO RIDE? What should I do? And will I ever be comfortable on the bike again?

Van, you're missing the point. KM is saying that (to paraphrase) animals kill indiscriminately but man doesn't. This is silly and just plain backwards. When was the last time you saw an animal kill out of jealosy? What Jay was trying to say is that animals kill for survival and propagating one's genes to the next generation fits my biological definition of survival. The example you gave actually supports what Jay wrote.

As for art, Katman's own statements undermine your arguments. Read them more closely.

To me it's clear that KM's ideas / rules are religious based. That's fine and although I may not agree with all of them I can respect them. What I bristle at is the way that some of those rules have been thrust on us.

I think that the operative word of the week at GSR is "Tolerance", something that, if it had been observed in the first place, would have kept us out of this predicament.

Man this sux, I mean, I read things in almost every post that I agree with and many things in many posts that I don't. At this point if I were Katman, I would apologize, if I were Keith I would apologizem or Jay or anyone else who has joined in. But I am not those people so... I APOLOGIZE! I am sorry if anything I said in any of my posts to this topic caused anyone to disagree of have bad feelings.
