Hey folks.

I jist talked to my dealer who's working on replacing an exploded bearing in my gearset .Come to find out they want $450 for new parts.

In that case, im looking for used. Im wondering what other bikes can i snag a gearset off of and still have it work (obviously :) )

Ive got an 80 gs1000g

Im not exactly sure of the submodel.

It it a shaft drive so will any 1000 cc gs shafty be an acceptable doner? Thanks guys

ALSO,

looking in the "parts for sale" thread, i noticed a couple guys with 81's and 82's for parts. Will other years work as well and if so, wheres my limit?

I know anything older then 80 ( '79, '78, ect ) wont work due to the different design but im not sure about a year or two newer.

Thanks again.

I reckon you're best off having a look at the parts book and comparing years - online one here:

http://www.alpha-sports.com/Parts/SM80.htm

Just keep changing the year in the header to 'roam' across the years.

Also, if it's like the UK over there, don't buy the original Suzuki bearings for a ?million each. The last lot I bought for a mate (who insisted on genuine parts) came in the Zook box but were stamped 'made in Germany'. Just get a local bearing dealer to supply based on the bearing numbers.

I've got an 81 GS1000G bottom end sans clutch. Wouldn't be able to get to splitting the cases till late next week at the earliest though. PM me if you're interested in any of the parts from it.

Are you taking about the rear end -- the final drive down at the wheel? If so, then yes, they're all interchangeable from the 850 on up, any year. The GK has a slightly different gear ratio.

If you're talking about inside the transmission, then never mind.

yeah im talking the secondary gear set inside the trans. The last set the shaft drives off of.

Thanks for the replys
