None of the petcock rebuild sets I've seen have them. Theres 2 tiny o-rings on the prime screw. Mine mistakenly got melted by carb cleaner...

Anyone know where I can get a set? 81 gs45e?

Have you tried Robert Barr? www.cycleorings.com

He stocks some real small ones that are fuel resistant. ;)
Send him an E-mail or PM with the dimensions or as close as you can measure.

Daniel

Sorry, but I have no idea what size these might be.

Dang ok TY anyway. Guess you could disregard the email I sent you asking for these via my yahoo email addy.

How do I go about determining the needed size of these o-rings? IIRC one was a flat type o-ring, in that it was flat on the outside edge and not round as is typical.

pic of primer screw minus the o-rings...

pictures please

Sure thing here it is. Sorry if pic quality is bad, best I could get. Theres 2 notches one on the very end and one about 10mm from the first. IIRC the one on the end was flat type.

Anyone have any idea where we could score some of these?

Thanks for any and all help and hopefully we will see ya out there!!

Edit; come to think of it they were both flat type I believe....

McMaster-Carr has printable rulers etc to facilitate measuring of little bits.
Yah can lay the flat on the paper and get ID and OD.
A caliper would be best I suppose.

I am looking about for prats on this.

Stupid of me to ask but you are certain this is part of a petcock? it looks like a carb internal part.

The washer looks like a thin resinated fibre type.

100% sure of it. Its the primer screw. If you look real close at the pic in the OP you'll see it, vaugely. Its just to the right and down from the petcock knob or handle or whatever. You can just make out the lil brass screw.

Edit; thats not a stupid question BTW

I'm pretty sure that for UK bikes that would be the wrong petcock. The prime screw set up disappeared in 79 or 80 as far as I remember and was replaced by the different lever position.

Thats just what I'm starting to think. The petcock on our bike may not be stock. Have yet to see another 81 gs450 with a prime screw... Ah how much do I love the dreaded previous owners.

Might just be our best bet to just replace the petcock completely and move on...

So that's what it is!!!! I got asked what the screw was for and I had no idea whatsoever.

This is my brand new tap I got from Boulevard Suzuki a month or so ago beside my old faulty one, and this explains why my tap has no prime position:

I should still have all the bits and pieces for the old one so will try to get a look when I finish painting today.

Pete if you could find that screw I would love to take it off your hands!! Be more then happy to send ya some money to cover your costs and shipping costs!! Heck I'd even buy that old petcock off ya!!!

That explains the erstwhile inexplicable hole spot in mine.
The gasket has to be one of the thin resinated fibre types.
Can you size it for Fier0 dude?

TYVM Jeeps but I need the o-rings that are on the primer screw not the fiber, ( or paper ) screw gasket. Just a reminder its the two lil o-rings near the end of the primer screw. Lol Fiero dude? Nice. I happend to like that nickname...

Aaargh sorry mate! Completely forgot to look today as I ended up doing a big clean up after painting and some other stuff.

I shall do my best to remember tomorrow night, sorry if that's a bit slow... I have a memory like a sieve unfortunately...

Can't guarantee what shape the O rings are in or anything although I do know that it hasn't been through carb cleaner as I didn't bother after realising the metal plate in there was in a few different pieces....

No need to worry, winter is knocking on our door here in the very very north east. There will be 6 feet of snow on everything pretty soon.

Odd the metal plate in our stock petcock was busted too. The one thats in the vacuum diaphram part? Ours has a crack in it.

TYVM for any and all of your time and help!

Edit; plus I'm in the middle of this...www.fiero.nl/forum/Forum2/HTML/118944.html checkout this link I ya like, pretty cool stuff.

Cool, well, literally cool with the snow! ;)

Yes that's the same piece that failed in mine, I'm guessing it's a weak point in these...

Hey mate, here's my old screw:

Happy to send it just for the price of postage, but the O rings look a bit hard to me so I wasn't game enough to try to take them off to measure.
