A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm new to gs resources and was hoping someone had info on where I might find a petcock rebuild kit for my 79 gs 550 l. I've tried local suzuki dealers, websites like Old bike barn, etc., and even ebay. seems like they are available for 81' and newer, but can't find it anywhere. would rather not buy an aftermarket petcock for 115$ so any suggestions? thanks!

I would just buy the new one. There has been alot of discussion on here about this and issues with kits being no good. Save yourself the headaches and start fresh.

Yes the guy I bought my 1100 from rebuilt the petcock and it lasted all of a couple months. Z1enterprises has new ones for pretty cheap. Id go that route instead.

Hi Mr. m dammeyer,

If you call Z1 Enterprises they will make sure you get a new petcock that fits. Otherwise good luck with the rebuild. There are many vendors listed in your "mega-welcome". And here it is!...... :)

Here is your very own magical, mystical, mythical, mind-expanding "mega-welcome". Please take notice of the "Top 10 Common Issues", the Carb Rebuild Series, and the Stator Papers. Now let me roll out the welcome mat for you...

Please click here for your mega-welcome, chock full of tips, suggestions, links to vendors, and other information. Then feel free to visit my little BikeCliff website where I've been collecting the wisdom of this generous community. Don't forget, we like pictures! Not you, your bike! :D

Thanks for joining us. Keep us informed.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I'd vote for the replacement. Only a very small number of folks have had luck with the rebuilds, it seems to be dumb luck rather than any amount of skill, some very talented people on here have had rebuilds go south on them. It's not a matter of mechanical aptitude, but of parts quality, I believe.

Can't say anymore than this. For $50+- you will not make another upgrade to your bike that does so much and costs so little. ;)

I've said it MANY time before...I have a nice paper weight that reaches 60mph+ in my shop, if you need a good example of why NOT to rebuild a petcock. Just ain't worth it IMHO.

Welcome to the GSR, your bike thanks you! :)

Also, stay away from Old Bike Barn. They are a well-known fraud operation.

Thanks everyone for the advice, looks like I'll be calling z1 on monday morning!
