• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pic of the week game

I think I will go with Kerry this week. One, it is the greatest tourist attraction on 2 wheels. And two, he looks so happy to be there, lol...

OK...Happy Saturday Morning!

Votes are in...

Kerrfunk, Redman, Trevor, Burque73, and Baatfam with one vote each
Steve with two votes
And our winner, (first time I believe), is marvinsc with four votes.

If someone could verify my count, that would be great!

Count seconded....
Excellent!

Well Scott, you're up...What theme do you have for us this week?
And remember, it doesn't have to be a place or thing. It could be a thought, color, emotion, direction, anything at all....

Thanks folks, I'm honored. For this week let's see your best WTHAI pic. I am aware as riders, we are never lost, just exploring until we run out of gas BUT once in a while one has to stop and ask "Where the Hell am I"

.Reelfoot2010 by Scott Marvin, on Flickr

I was riding in the area of Reelfoot Lake Tennessee and managed to wander into that part of Kentucky that is not connected to the rest of the State. I rode across a Soybean field and walked to the top of a Levee and took this shot. This was 2010.

Aaaaah, the figari riders.....

My father had a picture in a photo album of him and two friends on a snowmobile trip with a note saying "the figari riders".
I asked what it meant and his reply was "where the figari......"

What a cool theme idea. I've had a few of those moments on the GS and the KLR. In NM it's been referred to as FAKAMI (singular) or FAKAWI (multiple).

Congrats, Scott!

Funny story, I went to Grinnell College, which is in central Iowa, off Interstate 80, between Des Moines and Iowa City. Geographically it's a high spot (elevation) between the two cities, and there's two railroads that cross there, which is probably why there's a town there. First college west of the Mississippi River, established in 1846. Anyway, in the 90s there was a T-shirt that said on the front "Where the Hell is Grinnell?" and on the back it said "Who the Hell cares?"
One day, my mom was wearing that T-shirt, and she was standing in line at a grocery store or something, and the man behind her in line -- who had not seen the front of the shirt -- tapped her on the shoulder and said, "I care!"

In addition to that story, the theme "where the hell am I?" brought this picture to mind. Fall of 2017, I was out exploring some of the smaller roads south of me and I found myself in a holler. I was on a striped road for a while, and then the stripe was gone and it was a single lane, and then the pavement was gone and it was gravel and I wondered if I would have to turn around eventually -- I've found myself in those places, too! After about three miles of gravel, the road opened up a bit, and there was pavement, and a house. I stopped and took this picture, where the gravel and the pavement meet. I thought it looked particularly nice in B&W.

I was at the annual Goldwing gathering one year and saw a pair of nearly-identical Wings with personalized plates.
His bike had "WERFA", her bike had "KARWE". Didn't make much sense until they said to put them together. :-\\\

Ranch country in SW Saskatchewan. Not really lost. Highway #342 is just over the rise in the middle distance.

Lost in central NY somewhere... ( I had no idea where I was). My good friend Steve lead me around, NO idea where I was..
