DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pic of the week game

I give you the winning photo, taken today, entitled "The Sticker Stump":

Behold the broader view from when we moved in in 2013:

So when we moved in we wondered about this 4-ft tall 1-ft diameter PVC-enclosed cement post on our little grass spot.
First Christmas, though, I put a red ribbon and a bow on it, and then eventually we started to cover it with stickers because well, why not.

GSR, why is it there, and is it useless?

I can only imagine that at some point, before you moved in, some drunk, or otherwise impaired driver cut that corner and either hit or nearly hit the porch. It's a concrete bollard to protect the parsonage, the pastor, and his family.

Ding ding ding! what sort of looks like a driveway is actually a street but is treated as an alley, and it gives access to the back doors of several businesses, including a restaurant and a hardware store. Businesses that get regular deliveries from large trucks.

Even with the sticker stump there, my wife's rocks get crushed by vehicles. That's one of the reasons she doesn't plant right there. People drive over stuff.

So something that looks silly or useless but has a real function!

Also: note the helmet atop the stickerstump. Something else that protects ;)

Looks like a giant sculpture.. its actually a water tower built in the shape of a transistor back when trasnsitors were the new technological marvel. At the former Bell Labs building property in Holmdel NJ. The building is quite the marvel itself. The property sat vacant for years, but thankfully was bought and repurposed as a multi office space with shopping, etc on the HUGE main floor.

I seriously have the intention of building a mailbox like that one day. Thought about it with my donor bike, but it's an ugly L, lol... Someday...

Happy Friday one and all. Time to vote.
First, the confusing theme of the week:
Something that appears useless, silly, or fake, but actually has a serious purpose. Or the opposite, something that appears useful, and is totally not.
Special no copy rule: It cannot be a part from, or on, a motorbike.

How about a useless fireplace.

I will let you see if you can spot the "fake" in this photo.

"Hey! Useless!, Serves any real purpose? Naw! Useless!"

The seemingly useless item is the formerly empty diaper box I've been throwing used, removed, broken, or otherwise defunct GS parts in for 15 years (my boys are now 18 and 14).

That's all folks....
If I missed any, please let me know.

I like the pic from Dorkburger as well.
Hadn't quite got the scale right until i noticed the massive, spot-light trees in the background.

Steve Murdoch gets my vote! Beautiful row of motorcycles. The Dorkbuger comes in second for me...

My vote is for Redman. Love the way he framed it, so the sculpture is a reflection of his bike, in color and shape.

This wide-net theme allows a lot of creative latitude - well done Baatfam. Because of the humour (I think), the pic of the row of beautifully restored (useless to non bike people) antiques in the living room has my vote. Steve Murdoch for the win.

Baatfam, for me, have been trying to think of a way to turn an engine into a mailbox without success yet.

Just trying to get my first photo posted since Photobucket melted down...

Didn't see how to resize, so we will see.

That is a cheap Wal Mart Schwinn with aluminum frame which has been updated with XT hubs, Mavic wheels, alloy stem, seat post, and bars, billet steel and alloy pedals, Truvative crankset and SRAM twist grip 9 speed. 100 psi tires and quality hubs make it roll fast. upgraded brakes are at least high enough quality that the springs hold their temper and remain in adjustment. The originals don't. I've assembled five of these, three men's and two women's, and enjoy sourcing and repairing the parts. My wheel truing isn't perfect. Haven't quite learned to make them both round AND straight. They are fun to ride on the bike paths and in the city. Way faster than it was stock, with 40 psi tires, and much lower quality rolling components. They end up not being very inexpensive. Components end up costing around $400 to $500 used, maybe more. I've got one more ready to assemble. Probably go back through and replace all the headsets with better quality finished ones like Tange. This one has a nice light spring seat off of some German commuter bike. Decent halfway light cruiser seats are hard to find.

Combat, that's cool and all, but you're posting in the wrong thread. Try the Random photos thread. If you want to play in the pic-of-the-week game, see the rules in the first post of this thread.

now back to our regularly scheduled program..

Voting for burque73. Nice one, Roger.

There are several good pics that fit the theme but Im voting for Baatfam this time. I think that is a great use for 1/2 a motorcycle.
