• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

    Welcome!
Register to access the full functionality of the GSResources forum. Until you register and activate your account you will not have full forum access, nor will you be able to post or reply to messages.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pic of the week game

Okay, I have figured out *a way* to guide people to a specific post, but it is a little cumbersome.
I also know a different cumbersome way to guide people to a specific post.

Here are the last three contests:

The second-to-last column is the ID# of the post on this site. The last column is the page number.
If you manually enter these two numbers into the following template, you'll get to the desired post.
Note: you must replace my BOLD CAPS with the seven digit number and the three digit number.

thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?250413-Pic-of-the-week-game/pagePAGENO&p=POSTID#postPOSTID

For example:
thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?250413-Pic-of-the-week-game/page436&p=2572222#post2572222

thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?250413-Pic-of-the-week-game/page441&p=2573229#post2573229

thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?250413-Pic-of-the-week-game/page444&p=2574030#post2574030

(yes, you need to enter that 7-digit number twice, and the page number once)

ALSO: you have to have https://www. before the "template", but if I include it in the post then it automatically turns it into a link and you can't see what you're supposed to see. I told you it was cumbersome.

FINAL QUESTION: I am fine filling the chart in with the additional numbers if folks want, and I am open to suggestions for how to make the chart less cumbersome.

Kerry, thanks for working out something for this. That seems like some fussing around on your part and some tricky stuff for the searcher to do. Would just the post number be easier for you and less tricky for the searcher.

All, after seeing the entries so far, makes me wonder if I want to put in any effort.

A link to the page number is not too cumbersome.

thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?250413-Pic-of-the-week-game/page248 for example includes a summary of the "silhouette" theme.

Sorry guys....I think I have my photobucket figured out now....why do they always have to change chit??

This was taken in Aug 2018...BC was hit hard by wildfires....so much so that the smoke made it over to where I live on Vancouver Island...

This was a brief pause in the rain at the Mills River Valley Overlook. Hard to tell it's just over 4000' elevation, due to the clouds. I have a wonderful picture taken in the fog on another trip, just have not found it yet.

If I find it before Friday, I might change it.

My first thought: "Is that a mountain peak? No the top of Steve's windshield!"

The only thing higher on the bike is the top of the antenna. :encouragement:

Although the wind protection is quite wonderful, it really sucks in the rain. I look through it, about 4-6" lower than the top.

I did this back in 2018, early 2019...but it was kind of a pain, and as far as I know, no one used it.

Bob, the difference would be that the winner/theme poster would actually include the post number in the text of the post, as in #1234, that would make it easy to find by clicking on "Search this thread" at the top.

Otherwise trying to work your way to a particular post # in a long thread can sometimes be a tedious bracketing exercise.

Yup...I hear ya, Don...might work.

Too bad we don't have space for a small gallery, where can upload our entries, and highlight the winning photo each week.
Kind of like the "Bike of the Month," except we show the theme, entries and winner each week.
Could even do the voting there....forum wide, if we wanted.

Parking lot near the summit of White Face Mt. About 4500'. Not so much fog as being in the clouds.

I think this was the day I took the long way home from an event in Charleston WV. Loved the clouds in the hills here.

Early morning fog over a channel of the river this April.

High water level such that cant see the peninsula where the row of trees is.

Usually can see across the river to the other side. THis pic is same place, a couple days prior, about same time of morning.

This is at a rest stop just west of Rapid City, SD taken in September 2014. As you can see there were very few other fools on the road. I was trying to get to a GS gathering at Sandy's and the only route was to punch through an early winter storm. It look doable on the weather map but it really wasn't. One of my most miserable rides ever--mountains, fog, cold, rain/snow, darkness, numbness, pain and fear. I finally made it into Billings and after waiting three days for the weather to break, gave up and headed back to Florida. Had I been a man of even mediocre judgement I would have stayed right in that rest stop. :)

Happy Friday Morning, "Photo of the Week" gang!!!
Let us get to the voting....but first the theme by Burque73:
I've not been the best theme setter, but let's try fog.

Some sort of fog, haze, smoke, shot through a cheese cloth or whatever you feel gives that sort of impression.

More to follow.....
