• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

What is the time difference between here and Ireland, 8 or so hours?

Paging runner up Steve Murdoch....You might want to start thinking about a theme for this week...:)

<pant, gasp, wheeze>
I've been here since 6 o'clock, honest.

Gratified, I am, to get the votes for shot of the messenger.
Over the years it's been a standard bike, then a rat-like thing (gradual, not aimed at) then gradually became more like the kind of bike I would have wanted it to be back in the late 80s/ early 90s, when it was earning its keep.
The two 850s, between them, paid for my house and put bread on the table, and apart from the usual failings (leaks, stator, etc) they did it fairly faultlessy every day.
This one of the pair has become my daily (the other one awaits an engine refurb) for the past decade, and it's now clocked up more than 300K miles, so it's doing quite well. Of course, by this time a lot of the factory parts have been replaced or upgraded, so it's hardly realistic to claim that it covered that mileage in orginal trim. This one is also the test bed for the SU (and has been since 1993 or so), and I'm finally getting it dialed in right, hence the oxygen sensor as was noticed earlier.
The advent of decent output LED H4 bulbs finally allowed me to run auxiliary lights like I always wanted to do, but the standard charging system wasn't capable of running if they were all halogens, of course.

I've been thinking of a theme for the next week, and decided that I'd like railways / railroads. Tracks, stations, engines, level crossings, anything at all to do with the permanent way.

Here is my train picture... Two Locomotives one is the year 1900 variety, the other is the 2000 variety. This picture was taken in Dodge City Kansas. I couldn't wait to get out of Dodge... Anyone that has been there knows what I mean.

Canadian trains are so long, they must just bump one wagon on at the end, and uncouple one 2000 miles away, like one of these...

I have to admit that I?m a bit of a train geek. If anyone here is a steam locomotive fan I recommend looking up Union Pacific?s steam program. Truly epic work they?ve done restoring and running a few of their old steamers.

No example pic? I have an idea for you. How about a shot of you pulling a locamotive with that "gnarly workhorse". haha

It can be a bit of an arduous task finding a new theme. I've tried a few different methods.

looking through photos on file, then deciding on a theme to match whichever pic I choose.
Coming up with a theme then looking through pics to choose one.
Going for a ride and looking around for something interesting and figure a theme idea from that scene.
Think of a theme and a scene then ride to get it.
Wait for my wife to get up on Saturday morning and ask her to help choose one. I've even asked my kids for their input. My daughter took some photography classes and has had great insight into what makes a particular photo interesting. Too bad she moved to Vegas.

I think it helps for me to keep an eye out in daily travels to know where potential new stuff is. That's assuming I don't forget about it around the next turn. LOL

I think I used the pic I initially posted before, but can't remember using this one so...
