A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I think the bars are off of a dirt bike. The whole bike looks pretty solid. Now that I am done with the GS1100E & the GS850G I need something to keep me busy. I need to stay in the shop 6-10 hours a day.

That looks just like my old bike before it was stolen. That was back in the mid 80's when I was stationed in N'Awlins. I really liked that bike.

Always thought, never rode one, a GS650 "E" or "G" should be a pretty nice bike. This one looks like a very good, no missing parts project. Probably just time & not a bunch of $$$. 2 minimal drawbacks, the non roller bearing crankshaft & they had those "FUGGLY" tail sections. Good luck.

The 650E was based off the 550, so it has a roller crank. The 650 head is the best of the lot as far as the 2V'ers go too. It has a bathtub shapped combustion chamber which made good power. Looks like a great project!

Amazing what to learn around here. Who'd have thought the 650"E" would have a roller & the 650 "G" would not. I thought the "chain" & "shaft" was the only difference. Now just hope I don't forget.

Lots of good info Thanks the one thing I noticed on this one is the front disks are vented but the rear one is not. I don't think it would come that way.
I started to remove the Carbs today and they are a real PIA . my 850 and my 1100e are much less of a problem. And thinking of Carbs. Now that Robert is no longer selling the O-Rings is there anyplace on line selling them?

If getting those carbs out are anything like my old 1980 550L, I do not envy you. Those were a SERIOUS pita.

Needless to say, if the carb boots or airbox boots are hard they should be replaced. And at minimum, the O-rings on the carb boots should be replaced as a matter of course. Failing to do so guarantees a fluctuating idle due to air leaks.

I ordered the O-rings from the Ebay seller Ill let you know how they fit. The last carb boots I ordered from Partzilla Are there any cheaper ones that are worth buying? And how about airbox boots?

Yes I think it is very similar to the 550 and definitely not fun. I am sure getting them back on will be a major PIA

Nice bike, looks like it will be a nice project for you.

I restored a 1981 GS650E a few year ago, it had sat for almost 30 years.

Check out my rebuild thread here.
