A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

edit - cover has since arrived and looks fantastic. (Oct, 2012)

Tried taking advantage of Pit Replica's "if we don't have it, send us yours and we'll make it for you free" program.

Mailed them my seat cover from 850GN in May, they received it in June. I was expecting it back within 6-8 weeks after that point; it's been about 15 weeks now.

TC has been communicative but I'm getting a little tired of having a piece of pleather on my seat and was hoping for a much more positive experience. I know it's a freebie but it's still business.

Hi TC.

It's been another 6 weeks. Do you have any additional information for me? I'm surprised because I have only heard good things about Pit Replica.

Please let me know what's going on. Kind thanks,

Aaron

Hi TC. It's been quite a while since I heard from you and I was hoping to perhaps even receive the seat cover by this time. Can you inform me of the status of this replica?

That's too bad, my experience was positive. I believe it was 10 weeks door to door. End result was excellent.

AFAIK, I was the first on GSR to take advantage of their free offer. Yes, it took a long, long time. But the cover looked great and I was very pleased. I was fortunate in that I had a spare seat, but I just kept the faith and it eventually arrived.
My alternative was a cover that looked nothing like the original for well over $50, so I just waited it out.

I remember Chuck Hahns '78 GS1000 seat cover taking a long time also, at that time they were experiencing flooding problems in Thailand and they were not satisfied of the quality of the first cover, so they reworked it.

I put one of their covers on my 1981 1000G. It looks great. I don't think your '79 is different from that, is it? It is true that with their descriptions they use for their covers, it is difficult to discern precisely what their covers are supposed to fit.

Yeah, they really need to get some professional help in identifying what their covers will actually fit.
I do have a Pit Replica seat cover on mine and it fit well, but remembering the add, it was listed as being able to fit almost any GS1000 out there.
It did work out well for me though.

Arron..be patient...it will come. I also had to send pictures and explain that the seat pattern for the 78 1000E and C models WAS NOT the same as the seat pattern for the 79/80 Cooley. They kept insisting that i was wrong, so I had Octain send me a picture of his factory original C seat and forwarded it to them as proof that the seat i sent for the 78 1000E was in fact the same seat that was for the 78 1000C. It took forever to convey to them that this seat pattern was uniquely made just for the 78 year, and only for the E and C models.

it arrived.

TC emailed me a day or two after my latest inquiry and said something like "i guess my last email didn't go through - it's shipped already"

got it a week or two later. it looks fantastic of course. and of course now i'm looking to sell the 850 :P
