DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Time to start making this project happen. I've had all the parts to do it for a long time...finally going to make it happen.

The bike: 1979 GS1000S. I've had it for a few years and have been riding it, but the motor is tired and it needs love.

The frame and misc. parts are just back from the powdercoater:

The replacement motor: I built this a few years ago intending to put it in one of my GS1000E bikes, but once I got the S, I figured it would be cool to use it there. Some of the specs:

New 1085 pistons and rings
Ported head with new valves and seals, 3-angle grind
Welded crank
Billet clutch basket with welded heavy duty backing plate
Back-cut tranny gears
Andrews S-2 degreed cams
Oil cooler
Mikuni VM33 carbs
Yoshimura exhaust

She will have an 1100 swingarm, Marzocchi or Works rear shocks (I have both) and straight rate springs in the front. I'm debating on using the stock wheels, or I have an 1150 3.5" rear and matching 19" front that I might use. Lots of NOS parts that I've been collecting over the years, and of course some fresh paint. As I said before, I have everything I need to get her finished...just finding the time to do it. I'll post up as I progress.

Oh, forgot to mention...cleaned up the wiring harness and she'll have the coil relay mod, duanage's reg/rec, and a Dyna 2000 ignition and coils. :D

Today's progress:

Got the front forks rebuilt and back on the bike. Bearings in swingarm. Steering head back on with new bearings. Fairing brackets and headlight ears mounted. Now off to work all night at the power plant. :( I'll shoot some update pics in the morning. Tomorow after some sleep I plan on getting the swingarm on and put on some temporary wheels so I can get the bike on my lift and start putting the wiring harness back on.

That's going to be very sweet!!! You're going to make me come down next summer just to see that thing, aren't you.

Some small amounts of progress between my 13 hour shifts. Got the forks rebuilt and installed, triple tree fork ears and fairing brackets installed, new swingarm bearings and bushings installed, and the shocks put on. I'll get some temporary wheels on it tomorrow and start getting the wiring harness and other goodies installed.

Looks absolutely fantastic!! what type of shocks are those?

Those are Works Performance Billet Trackers with ARS. I stripped off all the clearcoat and stickers and polished them. :D

Some progress. Got the engine in today. Finished painting the GS1100 calipers that I'll be using. The 1150/1100 wheels I'll be using are stripped and ready for polish, paint, and new bearings. Sorry for the crappy pics.

I tried to contact him to sign my tank. No luck. He lives in Idaho, I think, and works as a nurse.
