Project Windjammer

The horns are wired up via the Vetter harness but they don't 'hoot'. I'll look into the cause of it when I put the windjammer back on. as I recall the relay operated, but no hoot.

do you need me to look and see how they are wired or something else perhaps?

The colour is very close, but I was not able to give it the "marble" effect, that was just too much for me!

I really think the marble effect came from using a light blue under coat (primer?) then applying a thin layer of the blue base coat so the lighter colour shown through it.

are you happy with the colour, or is it good enough for 'government work' as we say?

Dale, thanks, no problem I have a horn relay under the tank and need to pick up that output as it does not go back to the headlight bucket.
We say a hooter "hoots", do you say a horn "horns"?

Pete, I am very happy as its been a long, long road to get here, even deciding/determining the colour was a project on its own. My long suffering friend above has been on most of the journey!

I just got up and am wiping the night out of my eyes and sipping my coffee. I saw you had posted and as always I just had to see. Andre..your an artist. It looks to me that maybe you touched up the silver on the speaker covers as well..I dont remember them being that brilliant. Then again it was all dusty the last i saw it. What did you think of that internally made antennea? When me and Dale fisrt opened the case i thought it was just some scrap paper. I nearly just grabbed it and yanked it out, then Dale saw it was some sort of antenna. I also noticed the notched area going over the case guards.. I dont recall them beig like that. Did you carve that area out as well?

The speaker covers are as original as I got them. I just cleaned them up a bit. I have the internal antenna working, but suspect it may be a problem in weak signal areas, but not mounting a flagpole in the corner of my right eye is much better! We drive on the left side of the road here.

No, the notched area is as I received them. Someone knew where they would land up 30 years down the line!

Thanks for the compliment, but impatience when something has to be done has robbed me of any artistic inclinations!
I am now kicking myself for not buying the edging and have Dale include in the parcel at the time!

I have not put the old edge trim back on as I decided to rather splurge on new edging, but JC Whitney unfortunately does not ship to the RSA and did not even bother replying to my email.

do you have access to McMaster Carr there? They have edging, that while it may not be a perfect match, would do well enough.

As mentioned earlier - how about Craig Vetter his own self? He sells replacement edging on his website.

The cheapest we have found so far is at JC Whitney. it runs $43.99 for 20 Ft plus an additional $8.99 shipping to me. Lets say a 1/2 roll weighs 4 Lbs that's another $41.55 for international shipping bringing the total to around $95 not including Taxes! as Andre said, it's a wallet killer.

Andre, look on the bright side at least it didn't cost you $800+ to ship it one piece and then you figured out you wanted new trim.

anyone have some GOOD trim they would like to donate to a worthy cause?

do you have access to McMaster Carr there? They have edging, that while it may not be a perfect match, would do well enough.

Thanks for the suggestions. No McMaster Carr here unfortunately and the price on the site you mentioned does include shipping and the glue, but is nearly double the price if including the lowers.... Very expensive at our exchange rate unfortunately.

I will keep watching ebay, maybe something crops up.

If any donors respond. please be aware that the edging will have taken a SET to it . Either pack it in a suitably square flat box. I dont know ifit would be a good idea tot ry and heat it to straighten it. Just be aware. I am under the impression that they applied the edging somewhat hot and let it cool on the fairings.

I just weighed the four pieces old trim and it comes to 750 Gram, so about 1.7 lb without the box and packing for the exact length.

Anyone know what McMaster Carr charges?

Being down on the Garden Route I am surprised you can get anything down there on that lazy laid back part of the country. Just me being jealous.

If you let me know exactly what it is you are after in the way of beading for the edges, I can go on a hunt for it up here in the big smoke, I am sure we will find exactly what you are looking for up here, I am yet to see a beading of any sort that you can't get up here.

This is not a bad place to live in I must admit!

Rustybronco has offered to purchase in the USA and ship over to me as that seems to be the only solution at the moment.

Yes, I also bought my Cowley direct from them 3years ago. I have the street baffle and not the racing which is very loud.

You dont have to say what it cost to ship, but can you say how much you saved shipping it this way?

Cost me about $850 to ship a 300+lb engine to Argentina. oh wait I mean a crate with "old motorcycle parts" in it, I cant ship engines to Argentina.

Fed Ex wanted a certificate showing the engine was STEAMED and had zero oil remaining, oh and like 3 grand... imagine how the inside would flash if I did that.

It took Chris some "convincing" on his end to have customs agree it was old parts but money speaks down there and he is rolling around at least, somewhere near Bolivia last I heard.
