• This forum allows conversation on non-controversial topics, therefore no politics or religion. "The Campfire" is an area meant for casual, civil discussions. Deliberate anti-social activity including personal insults, profanity, pornography, racism, threats and purposely inflammatory posts may result in suspension of forum access or possibly a permanent ban from GSR.

The words insight and incite are pronounced the same. But one of them will get you banned and the other will not. Before hitting the Submit button be certain which of the two better describes your post.

    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Random Photo thread

Love the composition and use of black and white. Sometimes it really makes the shot. And in case others missed your thread, congratulations on your future granddaughter.

We had a very hot day yesterday with a tornado warning in the afternoon. The wife pointed out clouds rolling in from the west so I walked out to the end of the alley to get a iphone pic without trees and wires. No tornado here but some hail and rain. I believe there is a picturesque name for this type of cloud.

Cool, Dave
Mammatus or mammary clouds, maybe?

Nice set of pics by all. Been a bit busy and under the weather, but I got out yesterday. Mostly meh, but a few decent ones.

Maybe it'll buff right out. Taken at a historic site of an old gold mining town that started in the late 1800s and abandoned in the early 1900's. Found at what looks to be an old campsite.

An evocative image Sandy.
I like it because I feel like that truck this morning.
B+W fits it well.

Yes, great shot. Makes one wonder why, what appears to be a 50s Chevy, was adandoned at a long adapted gold mine.

The only remains I could find of my camera. I recognized the pattern of holes as being the pattern of buttons on camera back. THis is after sidebag on bike opened up and dumped stuff out on interstate highway. (long detailed story on Brown County thread.)

Good stuff guys, and KF included!

My go-to thread here Dave.

Mr.M's foray is a good one on the phone screen but on the 15" laptop the perfectly placed bike in the pattern of dark/light and the graduated shades of grey really show up. If you squint to a blur, it reminds me of the notan drawings painters do before starting in order to work out the balance of black to white.

Its amazing how different eyes can pull out so many different images that are interesting and successful.
