DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Random Photo thread

Plastic barrel park district uses for garbage cans, can has a chain going to a post, I guess so Plastic barrel doesn't walk away.

Guess this guy climbed up the post and into the barrel and couldn't get out.

So I tipped the barrel enough that the critter could get out and run back into nearby woods.

Ha! We came acrossed the same thing. Well, same but different critter...

Went for ride Saturday

Went to this place to get view of beach/pier when was expecing a lake frieghter to come in.

You can see the ship name there.
Is 766ft, about the biggest one that comes in here. Has stern thrusters and bow thrusters so can make the turns in the river channel. (that propeller looking symbol on the side there is to indicate presents and location of the bow thruster).

Did he give out the Barker bark? I have watched almost every video from that Dre Designs person and she loves to capture that

Yah, That DRE Design is quite a ship watcher. Lives on a channel, and has gotten to know some captains and crew members. And travels around to Soo Locks and other places to greet the ships.

Yah, THe Barker Bark (as some ship watchers call it) is remarkable for how loud and how low of a tone the horn is. That is from the James R Barker (1976, 1004ft). SOmewhere I saw the horn is acatually two horns
The Best and Loudest Boat Horn on the Great Lakes - James R Barker #shorts - YouTube.
I have not expereinced it.

My pic is of the Kaye E Barker (1952, 766ft) comming into GRand Haven here.
And that is about as large of a ship that can make it thru the turns in the river channel here.

ANd there is a third Barker ship, Mark W Barker (2022, 639ft).

Maybe more for "random photo".....

Had a great time at grandson 3yo birthday party.
At first he was shy about everybody looking at him while we all were singing Happy Birthday.

I noticed that I could step behind him and get a shot to document everyone there (and they all looking that direction), so I did.

But later, looking at the other g'mas vidio, I see that his reaction to it all was quite significant.
At first he was quite shy, but then he was looking at individual persons, and look at the cake, and then look at more of each individual person. He made so many happy expressions.
I found it quite moving to see him so happy.

I took snagged screen shots from gma vidio and added them around my shot. Purposly Made the happy-face-screen-shots the attention point, and my photo just for supplemetary documentation.
My cut-n-paste (just PaintDotNet) is kinda crude (I know, I should learn more about the Affinity package I have.) but I really like this composite for the remeberance and the significance of the event.

On a minor note: Some of you may recgonize Jay RedmanSIL on far left, and Justin RedmanSon on far right.

Redirected here from another thread for incorrect pics.

For my prior corporate sins, I now work in the community recycling/reuse sector in NZ. One of the sites rents space and gifts materials to upcyclers, repairers and artists. This the work of one of the artists.

Yes, I have seen a single one a few times. Seeing a pair was a surprise.

Might be on a recon mission for a nest site. Or food (most likely) There is a nest about 2 miles from my house and the pair had a duck lunch in my back yard.

That's pretty cool. We frequently have eagles and falcons nesting in skyscrapers in Manhattan. They usually pick ritzy fifth avenue locales, then the tenants argue with each other over destroying the nests. I guess they're worried about the pigeon population? :-k

Out early enough that catwalk lights still on, and beacon lights still flashing (takes some effort to catch both on at same time).
Two pics this morning.
Less than a minute apart, and maybe 5 steps apart.

I posted this picture on the ADV forum, I thought I'd share it here too.
