A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

yes, I did bring back some of the gulf with me to get the shot.

And, as I said before, doesn’t take much photographic skill to get interesting picture (although having manaul exposure and telephoto lens helps).

Doah, I now see I pick a picture where person overlaps another person further down…. Adds confusion to the scene.

But that is at 6:15am central time, so I made that only once.

I didn't realize my phone could do this.

Nice photo.
Nice display of vintage tube boxes.
THen, is THe radio a tube radio, I suspect.

Thanks Dave. That's one of a few tube radios in the collection that I'm holding on to. To my eye that one has such a simple and pleasing design. . I finally last weekend finished going thru a boatload of old tubes to pick out what I'm keeping for the few radios I'm holding on to. Some will be given to a friend who uses tube amplifiers with his guitar. The rest of the tubes radios, etc are being sold.

Yah, simple, and nice wood.... then notice is curved wood on top and bottom,
, so simple apparence, but yet more involved construction/fabrication.

I found it interesting that some tubes are labled as "radio tubes" and some are "electronic tubes".
I wonder if "radio tubes" were common for radio circuits, and not TVs.

I used to know about some tubes used for certain circuits, so knew what tubes were suspect for certain TV problems. So take those to the drug store tester machine, (drug store? hum, some store, dont recall specifically). ANd there would be someone already there that had brought every tube, and taking a long time to check each every tube.
Whats the problem? Just a horizontal line? here check that one. Picture slanted sideways? here check this one or that one.....
Had not thought of that in a long time. Thanks.

From the eclipse. What I thought was freaky was a sunset view 360? all around. 20240408_151355.jpg

Me goofing around. I'm wearing my old welding glasses. Not really dark enough to look at the sun with... I'm still seeing spots! 20240408_145354.jpg

Couple days ago Mrs. Eli and I went to visit our daughter. She lives up near Lake Ontario. We took a ride up to Olcott Beach and the ladies went to wander the shops and buy useless stuff. I sat on a bench and looked out over the water. I noticed what looked like buildings on the other side. I googled a map and realized that I was looking at Toronto. Here's the thing, you can't see the other side of the lake. It's more than 50 miles away and the opposite shore is below the horizon. I was seeing an optical illusion. It was Toronto, CN tower and everything, clear as day.

It's called Fata Morgana. It was pretty close to the eclipse in weirdness..

Now that is cool! I grew up in the beaches area of Toronto and spent many nights staring across the lake at the glow of the lights of Rochester NY but never saw anything like that. You were probably standing near were I was looking. I've witnessed that in the Nevada desert on Hwy 50 though.

That is cool, Eli.
Twice I have seen basically the same image of Toronto when looking across the lake from Niagara on the Lake . It was on a blazing hot, humid summer day and figured the moisture in the air might have had something to do with it. Now i know the real details.

A subject I have explored before.
Is a big custome made neon sign, about 35x10ft. Is vintage.
Has had sections out since fall, and more out over the winter, and the other day I notice all is back in operation.
