I have searched all the previous threads on sealing the airbox. I have a GS850, 1980.

Has anyone found a supplier of the rubber seals?
I checked with my dealer today and he says that they are not part of the chrome end cover and do not appear to be listed seperately!

Surely not even Suzuki expect buyers to buy a new airbox when the seals go??????????

All suggestions appreciated.

Hi Mr. Chris Bohane,

You'll have to seal your airbox with some off-the-shelf sticky-backed weatherstripping. Check out this series of pictures from Mr. Roostabunny. For other needs, feel free to check my little BikeCliff website for 850 stuff that I've been collecting.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I have seen this post, it would be great if it was only the bottom of the rubbers that were shot.

It is the large upper section of the rubber which I need to replace, the bit that encloses the top half of the air box.

Still open to suggestions on where to get replacements.

Can't you use the weather stripping to do the edges then bond a piece of rubber sheet to the back of it?

Dan :)

you shoud be all right sealing all around the airbox side opening + that small "bar" accross with the weather seal
(not necessary to have the top section "filled")
as far as the replacements go, bike-yard or flea bay are your best options, suzuki doesnt do these seals any more
thin piece of sheet rubber (2mm or so) cut to size of the upper opening and glued permanently would work well too. then use weather stripping for the bottom section

yes, as someone said, it's an arts and crafts fun time! :-D

I cut mine out of neoprene impregnated cork gasket material, works fine, just need a sharp x-acto knife and a straight edge to do a nice job.:-D Just gotta be "crafty".\\:D/

the best thing i thought of is silicon caulk. you determine the bead size so you can buy a tube and not worry about it.

If you try someting and it does't work...

...Try something else.

Mr. Chris Bohane,

I actually stuck my weatherstripping around the edge of the airbox endcap, not on the airbox itself.

The silicon bead and saran wrap trick makes a good seal too. Here is a thread.

There's an airbox on ebay right now. Oh, but it's from an '82.

Thank you for your indulgence,

I asked the same question about 2 weeks ago, because I could not find the gaskets in any of the parts diagrams, so I thought maybe they were part of the end covers, but they are not.

You have to make your own. There are several easy and workable methods described above.

Any used airbox you buy will have the same problem, so that's completely pointless.

Once you seal your airbox, we'll let you in the shaftie clubhouse! \\:D/

I did not see yoru bike model number but I bought boot seals for my GS last summer from my local dealer.. they had no troubles getting them... they were the box ribbers adn my airbox / filter rubber... surprised you were told they could not be found...
