    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Postings to the For Sale and Wanted sections will be deleted 90 days after the initial posting date if there has been no activity to the thread in the last 7 days. This is done to eliminate dead posts from the forum.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anybody else a fan of Schott leather motorcycle jackets?

I've got four: two bombers, one 'Perfecto' (Brando's Wild One) and, perhaps my favorite, the 'racer' style, with button up collar and removable liner.

An emergency room doctor and his heavy-duty scissors made short work of my racer five years ago. All four of my jackets were bought between 1975 and 1985 for $100 - $140. To replace any of them today would cost at least $1,000. Before taxes. Or shipping. Or handling...

I saw what looked to be a copy of the racer on sale for $97. No taxes, no shipping, no nothing. Real 'leather.' So I ordered it.

I haven't received it yet, but I'm betting I will be so impressed with it that I will wear it out of my home zero times.

Anyone take that bet?
 
Let's be optimistic Rob, I'm always skeptical buying something off the computer I can't hold and know what I'll get, but usually it works out OK... Luck to ya... Oh yeah Rob, you've should have a private message.

Overpriced American union made stuff.
I have one that cost a grand 15 years ago.
nylon is the way to go for all but Brando wannabe poseurs.
 
Well, you get what you pay for. My 'leather' racer style jacket arrived, and, let's just say that any jacket that arrives in an 11" x 14" inch package will not offer much protection from road rash.

The zipper is lefty (female style), and the two breast pockets are not pockets, just zippers. After handling it, I need to wash my hands. It's an insult to the hanger, my real leather jackets and the closet. See if you can guess which large country in Asia it was made in.

Shortly before I discovered it on my doorstep, I ordered a $7 humidifier made in the same country. As Ralph Kramden said (while choking on a cigar), "it pays to buy the best!" :hopelessness:
 
Well Sheets, hoping for better news... Lets see, need to be be optimistic, wasting $97 today shouldn't hurt near as bad as wasting $97 would have hurt 50 yrs. ago when you got the good'uns... Better luck next time.
 
Well, maybe next time go over there see it, handle it, try it on and save "that" $97.... be just like the good old days 50 yrs. ago.

Hate it for ya Rob, don't let $97 curtail your holiday season. I kind'f giggled at your comment "Now they tell me"!... No, should read "Now I read the reviews", heck they were there all the time.
 
The photo can't do it justice, so I've included the package it came in.

Silver lining: whenever I'm feeling happy and content, I can just open the closet and gaze upon it...touch it...smell it...and do away with the happiness and contentment.

However, I'm not so foolhardy as to ever risk trying it on again. Not unless all razor blades were removed from my home. :ambivalence:

Here it is next to the jacket it is modeled after. The real deal, on the right, weighs 4.3 lbs. The new Chinese acquisition? 1.3 lbs. Quite a difference!

I can only hope that the children who made it are fed every day. :(

That said, I'm tempted to buy a Backstage Car Coat for my son. I presume this is the sort of garment that he can carry forward the rest of his life? Hope so, because it's $1200.
 
Follow up...bought the jacket for my kid. I hope he appreciates it, and keeps into his future. Made in USA.
 
This is my Schott "Perfecto," made famous by Marlon Brando in his film "The Wild One." It became ubiquitous during the punk rock years, an every day part of the Ramone's wardrobe.

I bought it in 1975 and immediately removed the chrome star that was on each epaulet. When my 90-year-old grandfather saw it, he suggested I leave it with him for a week or two. He said he would 'fix it up.'

Grandpa didn't disappoint. If you look closely, you can see that it is lined with rabbit fur. I've never seen another like it.

The coat came in. NJ to CA in two days. Can't beat the service.

Unfortunately, it's too small. Tight across the shoulders. He lifts weights several times a week, so my bad on the size.

My son has been to the Schott store in downtown LA a time or three, so I'll try to do an exchange there before sending it off. Schott offers free shipping on size exchanges, so all good.
