If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Good Evening to all of you.

Where do you get your shim from? Do you wait to take the valve apart before ordering them or do you get a set of them?
I am making a list of things I will need to do my full tune-up and want to make sure I have them on hand once I am ready.

I think I am going to start with the oil/filter/spark/battery first (I believe this is the easy part) - What sparks to use?
I will then do the carbs (I have ordered the O-rings and will be ordering the bowl gaskets soon) Any preference on the carb cleaner products? Do I need a carb rebuilt kit?
The last "big" part will be the valve and the shim.

One more question, where do you get your fuel hose/brake hose from?

Thanks again.

I am going to try to take some pics this weekend... they announced rain/slit/snow over here in NYC so not sure how much I am going to do even though the bike is in the garage. I am waiting for the oil filters to arrive as well.

I swap my shims one-for-one at no charge from my local Suzuki dealer. Measure each one if it's not in spec. Often times you can swap them around to reduce the amount of shims you need to get.

If it's an 8 valve (I assume it is since you have shims) then you need B8es plugs.

Any carb dip will work. I like Berryman's. Don't forget to also get the orings for the intake boots (if you have orings on them). You shouln't need a carb rebuild kit... just use the new orings and make sure your old parts are clean. Go to the GS Garage on the home page for help in your carb rebuild.

You can get the fuel hose from most any auto parts store.

:)

Fuel hose from an OE source. The stock stuff is 7mm and the auto parts store stuff doesn't fit as well (requires a hose clamp to seal properly).

Shims from Z1 Enterprises http://z1enterprises.com/ They also have float bowl gaskets and spark plugs.

Go to http://cycleorings.com/ for carb and intake boot O-rings.

So the 8 valve engine uses a different plug than the 16 valve engine ? I use NGK D8EA in my 16 valver....

I learn something everyday........:)

16V engine has less real estate in the head for the plug, thus D8ES for 16V and B8ES for 8V.

Bruce,
Can you get me a can of Berrymans from a non-hippy state. They changed the composition so it kinda sucks now. I do alot of carb jobs and need my Berrymans!

Not necessarily, see below.

Most 8-valve engines use different plugs, see below.

Isn't that D8EA for the 16s?
The threads are a different size, too.
Yep, the thread size difference is the difference between the B and the D at the front of the plug "number".
The 16-valve engines and the 550s and 650s all use the smaller D plugs.
From 750 on up, the 8-valve engines use the larger B plugs.

Yeah, I tried some of that California Berryman's.... it sucks!! You'd be better off with boiling water and lemon juice. We still have the good stuff here, and it's only 20 bucks a gallon. :D I'd be glad to smuggle you in some if you know how I can.

Steve, sorry to disagree, but the 550 2-valve engine uses the B8ES plug not the 12mm one (D).
