    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Spark plugs with resistors for these GS series bikes?

Do the spark plugs for these old bikes require the spark plugs with resistors?

I don't think resistors are ever "required", just recommended. I don't think "GS's" even recommended them. My "91" GSX 1100 G does recommend them.
 
Resistor plugs are not required, but the presence of a 5K resistor is. That 5K resistor can be in the plug or plug cap, but preferably not both.
 
This non mechanic wonders what would happen if there were no resisters anywhere? I've always heard they only keep static off radios.
 
GS bikes have a 5k resistor inside the spark plug cap. For this reason, resistor spark plugs should not be used.

NGK seems to be discontinuing non resistor plugs, but there is always ND, which are similar quality. Or, the plug cap can be taken apart, and the resistor element removed. You have to fashion a copper spacer in place of the resistor, though. I've never done it, but it seems easy enough.
 
I don't run any resistor. I have after market electronic ignition, 4.3ohm coils, 90 degree boots and stock plugs gapped at .030 - no issues with this set up. Pulls hard into triple digit speeds.

I've run several other set ups without resistors and no issues as well.

Both 77 GS750 and 78 GS 1000.

However, if you see a sign that says turn off 2-way radios, you might want to turn around as you might upset someone LOL
Resistors were used to prevent erratic electronic signals - aka radio noise, ant races, fuzzy stuff.
