DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm wondering after seing a lot of new vintage bikes around the net with those
see through cover around the stator if anyone made or found anything fitting on a
GS 550 preferably or compatible model.

I find that very sexy if your stator is good looking on the inside !

Pervert!

I've seen the see through points cover on Ebay a few times (Ebay.de I think) but never a stator cover.

not seen a stator cover "windowed" as the windings usually bolt to the cover itself. did my own LED lit conversion on the ignition cover.....

Timing Cover

Timing Cover

With a little guidance from Agemax, I too have a "windowed" timing cover.

The LED's are wired up, yet to go in though.

I would think on our GS's it may be a little tricky to do a stator window. One would definately have to use a high temp plastic, maybe 1/4" polycarbonate would work? I believe it is rated for 250-275 degrees?

I'm new to the old motorcycle work and not the mecanics expert, the stator is located
where DOHC is written right ?

Well in fact I found that it's more the clutch cover than the stator cover that is in fact
transparant.

Sorry I'm still learning the english words as I work around the parts :o !

The stator cover wouldn't be all that interesting anyway -- it would be a tiny window because there's not much room, and all you'd see is the bolt in the center of the rotor spinning around.

The clutch cover would be a lot more interesting. May GS models have the clutch release mechanism as part of the cover, so you wouldn't be able to put a large window in these.

Okay so bad idea to summarize, too much effort for nothing !

Thanks for the info, I like this forum a lot !

Fun with LED's

It's on the list for when I finish the electrical, so a week or so away.

I think you will be pleased, 6 led's staggered around the window. I may go 12 if it doesn't light up enough, but I think 6 should do the trick.
