hi,

im just new to this forum and im looking for people with either this bike or knowledge on this bike,
that may point me to the right direction on some issues regarding the resto of it.

i have recently purchased this and i know absolutely nothing about this bike....

but im starting out with the frame....

someone before me has put an angle grinder to the cleats that hold the rear pillion pegs....see photo.
i dont know why this happened and i find such a thing quite incredible.
...anyway, it is what it is.
im trying to find someone who has a photo of one close up, so that i can get an idea of proportion and of what to weld on the frame.

ive done a little research but from what i understand, this detail is different again on the blue and white model....?

not sure.....

any assistance will be greatly appreciated...

Looks like a fun project.:D

First off, please read this on how to post photos to GSR and have them show up in high definition glory...http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/images/how_to_post_pictures.pdf

If you can find a scrap 1000E frame I think you can transplant the missing section onto your bike. The US market 1000S bikes received rearset pegs, but the frame is very similar to the other chain drive 1000's otherwise.

thanks again ed.....trying to find any frame here in sydney, is quite a feat in itself.
no such luck so far, thats why im here...i will plot along regardless.

Found this picture, I have quite a few shots in my restore thread, you may find better pictures in there that are more suitable, also a little bit of inspiration for your rebuild.
BTW I'm building a database of all the GS1000S's, can you send me your VIN (Frame Number) Will be GS1000 53XXXX, either post it here or PM me with it, also engine number as well if you can.

Met, if you are looking for a set of fairing brackets, there is a set in Australia for sale, another member ordered some from me and never took delivery.
One of the members here has them with him.

Let me know if you need a set. (2 uppers and 2 lowers)

Here's another...

Seeing as you are using Photobucket, you can post the IMG (i.e. URL) link:

to get this:

Heck of an offer right here! GSR is a great place!

rudeman, your photo is pretty much the detail im looking for.

thanks.

you dont have one, with the peg off, by any chance and one of the peg by itself?

i need to get the proportion and size of that triangular cleat that is welded on the frame.... as you can see from my photo, this
cleat has been cut of and i will need to mig weld these back on, and then try and find two rear pegs to match yours....

thanks gregory for your generous offer. im not sure though these are the same condition.....they are probably the same frame, but i think the rear peg assembly is different. i may need two pegs though by the end of all this.......as soon as i locate what pegs to use i will send you a picture. thanks again.

hi kiwi canuck........
i have some of it, but not sure yet what to do with the fairings...
can you post a photo of what you have and what you want for them?

thanks again kiwi canuck...........your picture is also the detail im looking for.
its the size and proportion of that cleat im trying to gauge so that i can weld it back into myn, thats missing. (see photo of myn and where this has been cut of)
also looking to see in close up, the type of pegs i need to buy for this detail.
there seems to be an infinite amount of suzuki pegs for a gs..............
do you have a pic showing the cleat and or the peg by themselves, by any chance?

engine - gs1000 - 151648
chassis - gs1000 - 534351

Thanks for the numbers, appreciate that.

The 1980 GS1000ST has a few unique items that the 1979 model does not have, but I'm sure the rear pegs are the same on all the 1979 models, also the 1978 EN has the same square pegs but the EC has the round pegs.

Here's a link to Parts Outlaw, lookup 1980 bikes and GS1000S and then "footrest" you will find the part numbers and exploded diagram from the parts manual.

The pegs are no longer available but the rubbers are still available, I'm sure someone has some that will match the original for this model.

Check with Vmass, he may have what you need, once you get the pegs you will be able to figure out what's needed fro the brackets.

Here are some pictures of the pre-production units, before welding and powder coating, but the set in Australia is complete and ready to mount a factory (or after market) fairing to the bike.

Cost is $115.00

hi ed, thanks for the photos.
im not sure if these frames are still hanging or you still have access to them, but if it were possible to send me some real close up shots of those rear triangular cleats that mount the pegs, i will greatly appreciate it.
i see there is a further piece welded at the end of that triangular piece that's just a little too small for my eyes... i have never seen this detail so i cant picture it, but i will need to manufacture it the best way i can and weld it on my frame...a pic of the footpeg would also be good if you have it handy... thanks a million

kiwi canuck i have an old broken up fairing for the bike and bits n pieces of the brackets also. im not sure whether to fix them, or buy an entire set thats better than mine....do you have a fairing and screen you might be selling also?
