If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I ordered oil seal item# 28 on the fiche below. I confirmed the part number when i got the part and it matched. But today when i went to swap the seals out the one they sent was way too small on the OD to fit into the sleeve. Note the Suzuki part tag with the part number and the discrepancies in sizes in my pictures. What gives??????

Part ID label thats the same as the PN in the fiche....

The "new" part measures a little over 10MM but the sleeve and the seal i took out are at 12MM..

Old seal and sleeve measurements.....

That is a problem we get at work occasionally, the packer picked out of the wrong bin. Chuck you been in my garage, that's my Vernier !.

Its about time to replace that one. Its getting pretty beat up. Got it at Harbor Freight many moons ago.

I kinda remember lots of problems getting mine in. Never measured it. Had to do with the order of assembly.

Looks like you may have a size problem. But I do remember problems with mine also.

Yes it for sure the OD size that the problem with "new" one. Full 1.5 MM too small.

I think the wrong part is on the fiche. Wouldn't be the first time.

The part number you gave shows this dimension info when you check to see what other bikes it fits:
OIL SEAL (5X10.5X8.4)
You'll also notice when you click on the part number that the GS1000 doesn't appear on the list.

I keep one or two sets of tach seals around for any leaky wayward GS that happens by, and the correct part number for a 12mm OD seal is: 09289-05002. I've used this seal on at least three 8-valve GS1000s. If you do a search by this part number it doesn't list dimensions, but it does list the GS1000.

Also, notice that the part number of the other seal (the flat o-ring "wedding band" shape) is the same (26451-45000) as on the many other bikes that use 09289-05002. So yeah, Ma Suzuki made a mistake somewhere.

I listed part numbers here:

FWIW, it looks like Alpha-Sports lists it correctly, or at least it does on the 1978 GS1000 that I checked:
http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm?q=suzuki-parts

Alpha-Sports uses a different fiche database than most others, so sometimes it's a useful cross-check. They at least may have a different set of errors...

Here's the seal I have "in stock" -- it does measure 12mm OD. Actually it measures slightly more than that, but the idea is that it fits in a 12mm hole:
