Tires - Sport Touring Radials

So far, there are 3300 miles on them and I don't see any appreciable wear. I should have checked the tread depth with the depth gauge I have laying around somewhere right after I had them mounted. I could be monitoring the wear. No real matter, however, for I like the performance and feel over the Michelins, particularly in directional changes. The amount of miles per buck should be more than acceptable.

So far, of the various brands of tires I have tried on the front, the Road Attack stands out as giving the best feedback with the smoothest handling.
The things track so well, you can comfortably ride hands off across a grated bridge. I'm serious. . I would expect the Motion to mirror those qualities.

Attacks were put on my 929RR right after I stole it from some kid that couldn't afford to keep it. They were sure-footed as all get out but I never had a chance to see how they wore being that I had the thing for only a few months.

800+ miles were put on the Motions in Arkansas a few weeks ago. I was impressed with how they managed those roads..... better than the PR2s which seemed to get a little squirrely when pushed.

I really liked the Road Attacks because the handling didn't change with tire wear and they went through a curve like a monorail. :D The limit of lean angle was the foot pegs folding up, not the tire. I had a CBR929 and the B12 for about a year and a half with RA's on both of them. I really enjoyed the 929 for what it was, but as a distance street machine, I thought it really sucked. heh I kept the B12. Besides that, in low end and mid range performance, (where the majority of my riding is) the B12 would absolutely eat my 929 for breakfast. Still though, I managed to put 24k miles on the 929 in that time while also riding the Bandit. :)

After the RAs were put on the Honda, I began reverting to things that I had done 30+ years ago....and then some. The leap into stellar handling and power almost got me. After realizing wtf I was doing, I put it on the market and made a few bucks as well as acting in self-preservation. Besides, I could only stay on it for an hour or two.

When the luggage is off, the RT does all I want to do on two wheels.

Those are pretty much the same reasons I sold mine. It was way too easy to go way too fast and it was difficult to resist. LOL Besides that, I think I was on it about four hours the first day I had it and then spent the next three days in severe pain with difficulty standing up and walking. heheh Eventually, I was able to stay on it longer, but the process nearly killed me. :) In comparison, I have sat on the Bandit for 18 hours and nothing hurts.

How about tires for 650e's and g's, what are you guys using? The few web sites I've visited have decent choices for the front (100/90-19), not so much for the rears (120/90-17). (Sort of a hijack, not really interested in radials)

Yes it's a hijack. We are talking about Radials for new bikes because if you use the search feature you'll find 50 threads on "What tires for my gs" Or just search "Road rider";)

I even put it it the "Other Bikes" section just to avoid the GS questions. There's a lot of well explained opinion about the options but I still haven't decided if I am going to switch to the PR3's or not.

I kept my CBR 900 RR just as a caliber to judge other bikes:cool:
You definitely can't ride it for too long but what a grin when you do:)
Not to derail the thread, it's equipped with Bridgestone BT 016s that I never totally trusted or maybe it's the 16" front wheel?

How are you getting 11,000 miles to a rear tire!?!?! Please tell us your secret... I've never gotten that on any tire ever... Luckiy if I get half that mileage...

You've never met Earl, have you?

I would like to bring back this thread to see how them PR2's and Road attacks are wearing. I'm in need of replacing my tires. They are Metzler 06 I have about 10, 000 miles on them. The rear is flat in the center with a good "edge" on the sides. The front is wearing with little bubble like bumps on the sides. This is from the BMW RS. I do a lot of highway riding with this bike. But I do like to hit the back roads also. So I'm on the fence with either the PR2's or staying with the Metzlers. They are the same price with in two dollars. I haven't heard much about the Metzlers. Has anyone tried them?

I put a set of PR3's on my RT in March and now have a little over 7k on them. Great traction and hope to have around 5k more left before swapping them for another set.

I just now went to the garage to check my odometer. I'm running a set of PR-2s on the Bandit and they are at 14,969 miles so far. It is looking like maybe another 1000 miles will be it for the rear. The front is still pretty decent. I've been doing some tire comparisons and The Pirelli Angel GT has been tested against (in particular) the PR-2 and it recorded better mileage and improved handling in the rain over the PR-2. My next set of tires will be Angel GT's.

Earl,

I had a set of Pirelli Angels on my RT before the Michelin's, got 14k plus before I swapped them out for the new set and still had some left. Hope I do as well with the PR3's, I think the PR3's handle better on my RT though.

Cheers

The continentals were awesome- still are for the 3k/km I have put on them. However they are flat spotted from my Oregon return and have also developed and odd wear patern- pics to follow tomorrow.
I opted for the Bridgestone 023, because 1 I am cheap about all the wrong things and 2 they have great reviews. They're waiting to be mounted.

The Angel GT's have tested to show a 30% mileage increase over the previous Angel.

I'm currently running the Pirelli Angel GT's on both the Shiver and FJR. They are wearing well on both bikes and they handle nicely. My favorite tires for the FJR as far as handling are Dunlop RoadSmart 2's but the front wears badly on the FJR. It is a reasonably heavy bike and I usually ride it two-up fully loaded. The Michelin Pilot Road 2's wore better but didn't handle as well, in my opinion. AVon Azaros and Storms were very good handling tires but didnt wear very well. I am lucky to get 5500 miles from a rear on the FJR and always change both tires at the same time. Another way to go is to run a harder rear and softer front. I ran a Pilot Road 2 on the rear of my VFR with a Pilot 2CT front which was a nice combination. A lot of FJR guys like the Pilot Road 2 rear and Avon Azaro front.

Thanks,
Joe

Thanks guys for all you input and Joe for you excellent review. I think I'm going with the Michelin Pilot Road 2's I don't think I can go wrong with them. Good handling, good wear, a decent price ($278) for the set. Thanks again Norm
