    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Had to fabricate some new mounts for my windshield, the 3rd time this year, because I changed the handlebars twice.
Also replaced ye olde GS cows-ear signal lights for the smaller 1990s Katana style.

restarted painting my kz. last spring I got impatient on a nice March day, and after watching my neighbor take off on his Harley with his wife I had enough and slapped it back together. the good thing about that ride is it cured the primer in a hurry:rolleyes:. I started by sanding the primer to remove the surface dirt and remove the imperfections I put into the primer, then sprayed another 3 coats. i'll be sanding those coats smooth either tonight or tomorrow, depending on how cured the primer is in my cold garage.
 
Just a rubbin' and a Buffin'... I got all the engine covers done. The engine badges are not original style, but I like them. Still have the fork legs to do...

Modded an upper tree from a 1100E to fit clip-ons, I wanted clip-ons so I could lower the front. The front was a bit high because I installed .95 Sonic Springs this last summer.

I like the look of the clip ons, but may I ask why you didn't completely remove the perches?

Thanks, I was going to, but found out they're hollow and did not want the funky holes or weaken the structure. I'm not really done with ideas, plus the bolt holes work well for the windshield braces.

Looking great! I tried long and hard to find a set of the original badges, but they were priced in the stratosphere. We're you able to save the old ones?
 
Put a new Puig windscreen and mirror extensions on the Bandit today, then spent 4 hours looking for the keys. Gave up, took a nap. Woke up with a start and remembered the pile of clothes I made a few days ago for the Goodwill. Life is good again, ordering blanks on eBay for spares.....

The only game I watch all year and I forgot it was on.:black_eyed: Oh well, atleast I got Kerry's engine together and the valve clearances figured out. The buckets and shims were in a ziplock baggie unlabeled for which valve they came out of. Luckily I mic'd the shims before putting them in, I only had four that were out of spec. Two were too tight, two too loose. A little creative swapping and one of my spares, and everything is either in the middle or at the loose end of the range. It's coming together Kerry.:encouragement:

I still need to put the carbs, exhaust and new plugs, but now the engines near the finish line and the bike is off my lift.

I've got a set of B12 carbs too pull and clean and an '85 wing water pump to do today. If I get lucky I'll swap out the clutch basket on my 1100E. Really want to get riding that again. It's going to be another long day off working. What awaits me in the garage.

got some cheap spray paint laid on a SPARE tank for my kz to try different detail ideas. this is with just color, which doesn't look bad:




and here's with the initial details idea laid on. just a gunmetal stripe. I'm trying to decide if I want to add the narrow hotrod style stripe around the regular strip, or if I want to just keep the single stripe and if I need to leave it where it is or if I need to move it up about 1/2"-3/4".


 
I removed the carbs from the GS and today will be cleaning them up and beginning rebuild. Hum drum for some but very exciting and new for yours truly :o
 
Last fall I picked up a xs650 to make a few bucks on to help with my GS insurance and riding this summer.
The last time I tried to start it in the fall it flooded, floats stuck open and emptied the tank!:(
So I tore the fuel system apart and found a few things,, lines were probably original, one of the petcock filters was laying in the tank, at some point a tank liner was put in which is now deteriorating, went through the petcock, into carb and held the float open emptying the tank,,,.
So tore apart the carbs, junk everywhere, got checking the jets, were stock but the exhaust and air filter has been changed so ordered larger pilot and mains as well as new float valves.
Tonight I finished getting it all back together, second kick in a cold 32degrees F shop, running! Happy boy,, well old man! Lol
Need to ride it now to see if the jets are close.

It's a good think you like doing this sort of thing or you might get sick of it at some point... Good job Fred. What are you going to do about the deteriorating liner? oh and you might get a pretty penny for the XS650, they go for crazy money out here, even the rough ones because all the cafe and tracker crowds love em.

Hey azr, ya the world disappears and I lose about 40 years when the rocknroll is playin in the shop and a project grabs my attention. The tank looks fine inside, maybe just a sales job on someone when the flames were pit on it.
Yes I've seen there worth a decent dollar, this one is real nice, low mile(19,500klm) paint is high quality, bike is uncut and complete.

That dual carb set up looks cool. Whats the advantage of 2 over 1 big one? Veloctiy or something of that nature?
 
the modification of a reed cage makes the intake duration constant - these engines use the piston skirt to open and close the intake charge.

2 carbs are a example of unobtanium - that part it is to set this bike apart from the other ones like it for a show we are going to soon.
