I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

That was my point: I'm not sure the technology and its implementation arrived in time.
Climate change is a slow disaster it's imperceptible in our daily lives you have to look at it over a span of decades to grasp what is happening.
Because of that day to day problems take precedent for people who are worried putting food on the table, paying utilities, rent, mortgage, insurance and much more.
Capitalism is failing, it's slowing killing us, the gap between rich1% and poor is growing quicker than ever not only are the rich getting richer the rest of us are getting poorer.
It's the 99% of the population that can stop climate change but many of that 99% are just trying to keep up or survive.
Polling from S&P Global Mobility found in May that only 67% of respondents are open to buying an EV, a significant reduction from the 86% of respondents that were open to such a purchase in 2021.
So in just two years, 19% of the population fell victim to anti-EV propaganda....Or they just got stupider....which is entirely possible.
That's one way to look at it. The same article noted how much GM, Ford, etc. have pulled back on their EV investments.
You're just focused on the headline and not the substance of the survey.
Price is still a major deterrent as manufacturers following Tesla's lead are offering high end EVs first. Consumers are willing to buy but the price ,technology and convenience hasn't reached a point to where they'll buy an EV as their primary vehicle, a $100K pickup isn't everyone's choice for a primary vehicle.
The survey only points out EVs are still short of consumers expectations not an unwillingness to buy.
Don't think it's only the initial cost of an EV, I'm hearing a lot of concern about the cost of replacing an EV battery. Most anywhere you punch it up, on a computer, it says from $ 5,000 to $ 20,000. Also the deprecation rate for EV's is claimed to be 10 to 12 % more rapid than with ICE vehicles.... I keep thinking some kind of huge breakthrough in batteries is getting closer.

Is the price of a battery replacement any more expensive than a engine/transmission replacement? Tesla is claiming 400K mile battery life. One Chinese battery producer claims it's designing/building a battery with a million mile range, if true $20k battery would be great value, I'm not sure whether the chassis would last that long.
Depreciation, supply and demand can affect resale, surplus will drive down price.
Early days yet, I've no doubt all the technical issues that arise will be overcome.
I'd be interested to know how the chassis and steering components of mid-sized EVs are holding up to half a ton of battery being lugged around all the time.
I mean, you'd normally be using a light commercial vehicle for that, and suspension bits are generally heavier-duty than domestic crap.
We already know tyres crap out in about half the mileage of ICE cars, some due to the exuberant driving, most due to the simple physics of weight and cornering.
If used EVs filter down to Joe Blow, he'd best be prepared for a rebuild and get the tools out. Quite apart from battery replacement.
The big tire companies have developed tires for EVs that last longer (cf, Dunlop's Turanza). A Tesla Model S weighs about the same as an Audi A8. I think you may have a point on access to rebuilding info and tech, though. Rich Rebuilds is a great YouTube to watch in that regard.

Tires, my daughter's neighbour has a Tesla a rwd model he has difficulty getting up his driveway in winter. Rwd in winter is already problematic on icy surfaces having the correct winter tire helps deal with that. Would Tesla tires designed for extra weight be contributing to poor winter traction?
For a one season tire there, Michelin's X-Ice Snow tire seems to be the tire of choice.
That's what I use. I don't know if these tires will work for a Tesla with the extra weight, tire life could be affected.

Rich Rebuilds was mentioned a few posts up. One of my favorite channels. Informative, and comical. Don't know if you'll learn a whole lot, But you'll likely be entertained. He's been fighting w/Tesla for a few years now.
Same issues I've had with many of my ICE's...make that all ICE vehicles I've owned. At what point is it no longer worth spending thou$ands on repair for a vehicle that has no long term collector value.
If I needed a new engine in my 08 Civic do I spend $8-10K (supply and install) on a car that cost me 6.5K? I could buy a newer used civic for that. I've sold most of my cars to auto wreckers because it was pointless to spend more on bottomless money pits. It's not going to be any different with ev's.
The exception being if you can buy the non functional car EV or ICE cheap enough to make it worthwhile. If you can purchase a Tesla in excellent condition other than its faulty battery for a really low price then it could be an excellent purchase after battery replacement, $20-30K less than a new Tesla.
