    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've done the 4 & the 120... touched on parts of the 88 & never done the full 108....

Currently thinking of probably taking the 99 - 41 - 120 - 395, might be some tourist traffic as it'll be a Friday...

This will be part of my Los Angeles to Reno trip :)

I've done the 395 the whole way before... shortest by 30 miles or so but hot & not at all interesting road.

The 4 is very tight but pretty scenic, riding is slow.

The 41 may be busy due to tourist season but that's the way I'm leaning now as I can hit that earlier in the day & cool off under the trees (and up to 10,000 ft :D )

4 is my favourite. I've done it a few times in the past. It is tight and hilly and better suited for something like an RZ350. On just about any bike including a heavy GS1000 loaded with camping gear you have to watch you don't get too much air time off some of the rises.:eek::eek:. 108 is probably the best choice, lots of corners, better pavement and quite a bit more open than 4. Last time I took those roads was about 20 years ago, so I don't know what their current condition is, great scenery on all of them though. Last time we left Lake Tahoe in the morning and did 88 west bound, then 4 east bound and then 108 west bound the same day and ended camping at the Woodward Reservior. Yes, we needed many beers to calm our nerves that day. Too much fun!!!
 
Dan, I think you will enjoy the 108. Nice sweeping twisties...scenic..little tourist traffic. Still you will have to deal with a long run up the 395. You could always detour on the 4 to Markleeville & over to the 88. Then back down to the 395. Hwy 4 is much better here.

I remember we did hwy 4 together a few years ago. Surpirsed you're even considering it. Sorry Sandy, this is one sh!tty road for a big bike. The 5mph, 1st gear switchbacks were just way too much work! Add to that, all the braking as you work your way east.

I hope you enjoy the trip, whichever road you take!

I guess I have a weird sense of what's fun and what isn't. As mentioned though, I do agree that 108 is probably the best bet also. You folks have great time at Bruce's. I'm really pi$$ed that I can't make it. See ya in Oregon!!!
