Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

oh ok...i want to start building an 1150 but i wasnt sure whether to go with the shock or a strut, thanks Richie
A strut works pretty good for a street hotrod/strip bike...They are inexpensive and a simple bolt in...You may run into clearance issues at your sprocket cover when lowering your bike...The gsxr linkage and shock go in with fab involved and a good welder..You can also buy/make adjustable dog bones for height adjustment...Had both set ups on my 1150...The bike had quicker numbers at the track with a shock..

Hey guys, no I have not done a mono-shock modification. All I was doing was installing new stock shocks on my GS1100G. Skip might be the guy to check for serious Hopups though! He's a speed demon and a great ride!

PS: If you want to just improve handleing, go with the progressive Shocks. I got mine from Dennis Kirk

Note if you use the gsxr arm in your 1150 you will have to weld a top mount on the 1150 frame for either a shock or a strut..I can e mail you a picture showing what I'm talking about if you wish.E mail me

Most earlier model GSXR shocks will fit , provided they have a ride height adjuster as the 1150 shock is quite long.

oh ok, maybe the gsxr shock being shorter will help me out some because i want the bike to be pretty low, ill check around and see what i can find, thanks for the help, Richie

When you set up your rear susp, note that a small amount of diiference in , say , shock lenght, will make a big ride height adjustment...Are you going to replace the linkage or swap shocks with a gsxr? Big difference there in what you re doing.
Before we welded or finalized anything on the bike, we mocked it up with approximate rider weight on the seat area so we could get the correct ride height...also, when you extend a swingarm, the stock shock will be too weak and need at least a heavier spring..

ps, what do most of the shootout bikes run, i mean what kind of shock, i remember alot of guys went with the fox shock, then i started seeing more of the ohlins, hope i spelled it right, later, Richie

Either is popular last I knew...Those shocks are setup just for drag racing...They are designed to let the bike squat low on the hit and stay down, rebound dampening is extremely aggressive..For instance...You can fully compress the back of the bike and count to five before it comes back up...Last knew...one of those shocks is about 1k..You can have a stock shock reworked to act the same. A lot of info is needed by your shock maker, to get close to being right, i.e. bike weight, arm lenght, your setup etc.

Wrong Gerry. They were referring to mmedyna. He is using a Gixxer shock on his 1150 with a stock swingarm. With a GSXR swingarm it will work. With a ride height adjuster it isn't a big deal. Otherwise you will have to relocate the top mount lower in the frame. I am thinking of using a '97 shock with my stock swingarm, basically the same setup as an 1150. It would involve fabricating a piece of aluminum to match the stock shock lower mount and bolting it to the bottom of the '97 shock. The piece would also make up for the difference in shock lengths.

Billy, keep me posted on your GSXR rear shock project as I also need a new rear and was hoping to use something more modern and available. Also in another post I was curious about what you had to do to your stock swingarm to get the rear GSXR rim to fit. I am mounting a 750Katana 4.5 in rear with a 160-the swingarm looks very tight for this setup. Thanks, Ed.

The piece I am talking about fabricating is just something that will mount between the clevis on the bottom of the GSXR shock and transition into the right mount for a GS swingarm. The GSXR shock is about 1 1/2" too short. I may even incorporate ride height adjustment into it. Hopefully the spring rate will be okay. If not it shouldn't be any trouble getting a heavier spring for the newer shock. This would be easier than adapting the '93 swingarm I have.
