    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

will gauges from L work on a G?

Have a 1982 gs850G...really like the placement of the fuel gauge and having a gear position indicator...what do I need to do to put these on my G model?
 
Look under your sprocket case cover and see if you have a see through plastic circular type deal with wires coming out of it. If you don't gear indicator isn't even an option.

What year and model of bike were the guages on originally?

What year and model of bike do you want to put them on?

A 1982 GS850G comes with fuel guage and gear indicator. Does yours have aftermarket guages?

the bike I have is a 1982 gs850G..all stock. It has the fuel gauge in the tach, but no gear indicator that I saw...will check again. I just really liked the layout of the L model and might be getting an L model tank since mine has several holes in it. will check on the sprocket cover.
 
The GL model tank won't fit your G frame -- the tank is much smaller.

I have '80 and '82 850Gs. On the '82 all the indicator lights (oil, neutral, high beam, side stand, and gear) are in a separate unit that sits between the speedo and tach. The gear light window extends horiziontally across the top of the face. It may be that something is wrong in the circuit feeding the indicator. I would not think all 5 gear lights would be burned out.

actually...I havent ridden this one yet so hadnt put it in gear....never even saw the gear indicator...it works fine...
 
i know this much, you can swap out glasses all the way from a 550 too 1000. I have done it. Now what you may or not get is one may have a fuel indicator and another might not. junk like that. But it does take some messing around too do it.
 
I have a 81 GS850L, ordered 82 GS850G gauge set off Ebay and it had larger gauges, and the mounting bracket was a different angle, not able to fit over the ignition cylinder. The mounting bracket from my bike was not large enough to fit the new gauges. I had switch guts in the gauges to get my gauges working properly.
