A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Will gs1000 valvesprings fit a 650 head?

I currently have the head apart, may have to replace the valve springs and was wondering if springs from a 1000 or any of the larger models were the same diameter as the 650 springs and would fit as a replacement?

They all have the same size buckets and shims, so I suspect they will fit, as far as the diameter is concerned, but have no idea about the length and strength.

.

The are different part numbers, I need the length of the 1000 springs 0r 850 springs. I want to make sure there is no valve float, and it was suggested to install stiffer springs. I assumed that the 1000 springs would be stiffer than a 650 as the valves are larger.

Why assume? Download the two manuals from BassCliff's site and compare the specs.

There is nothing wrong with the gs650 valve springs... I wouldn't try and reinvent the wheel.

I thought the 1000 springs might be stiffer than the 650 springs, and possibly a little cheaper than HD valve springs. how high will the 650 motor rev safely? and is there any advantage to revving it past red line?

Not with stock: camshafts, compression ratio, intake, exhaust.

I would suggest installing a new set of Suzuki GS650 OEM Valve Springs and your concerns will go away. We make the assumption your engine is not built for the drag strip so must of us would state you have no reason to even consider H/D valve springs

I found a OEM set on EBay fairly cheap from S. Africa

The higher the valve seat pressure the more wear will occur; the valve pounds into the head. Always use the weakest springs that will suit the application. Unless you have aftermarket high-lift cams, I strongly recommend the stock springs.

I was planning on using the cams from the 550 as I've been told they have a little more peak power, and thought higher revs would take advantage of that.

but it dose make sense that springs that are too strong, would eventually damage the head
