A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey Gentlemen,
I am finally getting my 1979 gs 1000.
back together after many years apart.
question is how do I wire the igniter box with dyna ignition and after market regulator/rectifier.
just to make things interesting I'm throwing in a munit.
all the lights and switches and starter relay are working properly.
my book doesn't even mention the igniter box and
still has points?

Thanks in advance
Sheldon

I will agree with Rich. VERY few members have tried the Munit, even fewer have been successful with it.

With a '79, you have no ignitor, you have points and condensors. The wire that feeds the points will feed the Dyna.

Thanks for the info.
what is the CDI looking thing
that I'm calling the igniter box?
I think it's a stock part.
no mention of it in the manual.

Hard to say without further info.
There are OEM numbers printed on those parts, a quick Google will tell you if it is an igniter, regulator/rectifier unit etc.

Yeah probably the Turn signal module at a guess. Points have a condenser but no ignitor... :)

ANY BIKE regardless of brand that has igniter box is simple. The dyna has 3 wires. The red wire goes to any switched 12 volt wire. The hot wire from the harness plugs go to thier respective coils as they would be when normally plugged in. The other signal wire for each coil is conneced to the leads off the dyna. Look at the 1/4 pick up on left side of dyna to see what color the wire is and connect that to tge signal wire to the coil. Its that simple. If by chance the bike refuses to fire off just swap the coil leads from the dyna. mau have them transposed...Toss the box.

Exact same procedure for points sustems as well. Remove timing plate and wire in the dyna.

EDIT... The one i put on the red Cppley project came off a 75 CB750. I had some questions and started a post back then but was able to sucessfully figure it out and was surprised at how sumple it ended up being.

Here is the box in question
I think it's the igniter box. not really sure.

Ok.
I just confirmed that the original advance mechanism is in place. so no need for the igniter?

Hi , have you already installed the m unit ? I converted my bike about 4 years ago. So far I am very happy with it. I highly recommend the cable kit and removing all the stock wiring. Using momentary push buttons for inputs really simplifies things, like your starter button is also your kill and headlight Hi/Lo and off are all one button. As for the rectifier/regulation , wire the 3 inputs to your stator and the outputs to the battery . It is it's own entity.

It was all fairly straightforward.
works great now.
did not need the igniter box,
still a mystery why it was on the bike.
