A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wont rev over ~5000rpm

Forum Newbie
i've been here before, i first opened an account in 2015. Life got in the way and the bike was parked for a few reasons, a few were taking care of this month. still have some more, but it runs so much smoother.

83 GS850G, replaced the carb insulators with oem, seals etc. replaced petcock with brand new nos oem. carbs were gone through.

Starts runs idles great. But wont rev over 5000rpm. hits like a barrier and wont rev anymore, no sputtering just hits a wall and stays at that rpm. really weird.

i havent poked around yet, just kinda coming on here for some advice on what to check out before i did. floats were set to around 22.4mm

that wall is a parked neutral rev. it would rev fine when i last had it out and running a few months ago

i was waiting on a clutch cable so wasnt able to take it out. i should be able to tomorrow after clutch install

Very interesting, please don't get it straightened out and go away, I want to know what it was.

the bike was put away when i bought the house in 2018, wheeled into the garage and parked until 3 months ago on a bet that it would start right up, with a condiment bottle fed to the carbs, it fired right up.

it could be an airleak on the airbox side. i'll mess with it after work tomorrow

Did you remove the pilot jets and hole them up to a light, making sure the orifice is open?

You said, "It would rev fine when I last had it out and running a few months ago". I took that as you had it out and running then parked it for a few months, then got it fired up again but now it won't rev... Now thinking maybe it was revving fine, then you did all the work listed in post #1 and now it isn't revving, that sheds a completely different light on things.

If you don't find something in the fueling I'd look at the igniter next. On your bike it has the electronic advance so you need a mechanical advancer conversion to use the Dyna S or you need to use the Dyna 2000. Good luck. :)

i didnt have time today to take the carbs back off. i was almost positive it was something in the carbs because i had disassembled them.

looking into my tool tray earlier, i seen the washers that go before the main jet. that may be the issue.

im hoping i'll be able to get into them on Thursday
