The newer bikes have a shorter distance to open the carbs and that is the last thing you want with the smoothies. I think it would be like running a 1/4 pull throttle. What I ended up using was (I think 78 or 79) gs 1000 throttle. The cables are a little long but work. Keep in mind my bike is not the beauty yours is and appearance is not a big thing for me. They seem to work but I will be watching to see what you end up with to see if it will work for me.

Good luck and heal well, Gerry
If the cables you are using are standard GS1000 78/79 cables the shorter "S" are still available from Suzuki Canada PN:58300-45601 and are about 4" shorter. Cost about $40.00CDN each but would probably fit much nicer.

Hey, thanks, I'll check into it.

          Hey Rob,
Sorry to read about your shunt. Shoulda known better than run the flatties without a return cable - they're a bit prone to vacuum sticking - but temptation (and impatience) is a powerful motivator, no doubt I'd prolly done the exact same thing.
I'm glad you and/or the Kat aren't pranged beyond reasonable repair.

I'm no stranger to shoulder problems (chronic recurrent dislocation on the left side, from a waterskiing biff many, many years ago)...makes sleep, ah, "problematic" sometimes.
Mine's been acting up recently, for no good reason at all. It sucks bad.
I feel your pain, bro' - trust me on that.

Sounds like you're making good progress against the 'barriers to healing' that socialized healthcare present.
Glad you have access and means to get the best orthopod possible, it makes a world of difference.
I hope your recovery goes smoothly, and without setback.

            Thanks Ted,

I started off with some but they broke twice.

What really chokes me I guess is I had sold a set of cables to a dude and he told me they didn't fit..too short for his riser bars so I sent him my other set with the understanding I would get get first set I sent back.

He told me they were in the mail so I didn't bother to get some more thinking they would show up any time ... but they never did.

I found the better they ran or the better tuned the carbs were the more they would hang up. when I first got them installed there was no sticking at all but as tuning got finer and finer they began to hang as performance got better.

I guess that last adjustment was a good one.

Was talking to a buddy today who knows a moto-crosser who broke his shoulder too and 4 months later he still can't raise his arm. He wasn't able to get surgery or didn't push hard enough I guess. I had to bypass 3 doctors and go directly to a specialist. I wasn't going to fart around.

almost lost my bed at the hospital tomorrow but ... it all worked out and surgery is on for 10am.

I had a look-see today at the beast.. fixed the signal, turns out the mounting bolt was just pulled out and I fixed it. not a mark on it though. I turned the barend down to hide the grind and it is pretty much invisable from above the bars.

I turned the engine over and took off the stator cover..all looks good. The mirror I will live with for a while but the lever and cover need replacing. I have brand new front pegs...fortunately I didn't install them. the ware ball is ground off the right peg but no biggie, will leave it on. I have another kat cover already blasted and ready for powder coat...the lever is 2 days away when I order and she is back in shape.

I won't be riding till I get the throttle done though. My wife made me promise.....

I'd think one arm bandit rides would be alittle hard until you get full use of your left arm. But then again I guess you could always power shift

                      Dude,
Hope all goes well for you and the machine. I have been following this thread for awhile, I has helped me in the rebuilding of my 83 1100e. Not to your extreme mind you, but to put it back into the world a monster on top of the world. Keep the faith, we all live in the rebuliding of our beasts through you!

Sorry you're hurt. But glad you are OK.

I washed out my front end once a while back. Got an "A-C" separation. So shoulder now sags away from my collar bone on the left side. The ligament connecting the 2 major shoulder bones gets stretched.

For those with shoulders that separate and wake themselves up at 3 am - try holding your arms out horizontally (like a scarecrow) for 1 to 3 minutes a day. This will build your deltoids up and reduce the separating. It takes about 1 to 3 months - given your starting physical condition and degree of damage.

I sleep at night now - even though I still cannot quite do the crawl in the city pool.

Again - good luck Rob - it should heal well with the surgical repair. Be sure to rehabilitate.

Rob hasn't posted since he said he was going for surgery in his post above. But that was over a month ago and his account has not gone idle.

                              Hi guys......

The surgery went well. the shoulder is healling very nicely..but.

I have contracted something post surger which has left me with very painful muscle and joints over my whole body. I am just now starting to ease up on the pain killers (and I rarely take painkillers. I stopped them second day after surgery until this started)

haven't even looked at the bike in weeks. No energy and unable to stand or sit for any length of time. This is really sucking but not much I can do.

Until this eases up again I will be pretty scarce around the board. I am only picking up email every couple weeks.

I'll be back when I get healthy again....thanks for the concern guys...

                              rob.

Thx for the update Rob and taking time to pop in. I was truly getting worried having not seen or heard anything.

I encourage you to get checked for c-dif. It is very common for hospitals to give that to their patients post op and it gives you the symtoms you describe. That is unless you already know what they gave you?

If not and next you start to get a lot of gas, please, get checked. c-dif will kill you if left unattended. I just lost my father inlaw to it two years ago. There is no reason that he had to die, we all got ripped off big time. It was not his time yet.

Get well buddy. Praying for you!

                                God bless.
