    More shed action..

I finally got around to changing the engine, the one in the bike was a little tired and I have been slowly building something a bit special.

    So off I went.

A GS1000 engine is quite heavy and a little tricky to remove from the frame but with help from No2 & 3 sons it went rather well.

The replacement was nearly ready to go.

I took the APE 9 plate clutch from the old engine and fitted it to the new one.

Once the covers were all buttoned up I enlisted the help of No's 2 & 3 sons again so after removing the valve cover the engine went back in easier the taking the old one out.

Once the engine mounts were fitted and a few other bits bolted back on the plumbing for the oil cooler was fitted.

The cooler was originally from a TL1000 and it's been in the shed for years so I put it to good use.

The 33mm smoothbore Mikuni's were next.

After a few hours of making sure all the parts were back in the right place I think the end result is not to shabby.

The bike is now at https://store.racefituk.com/collections/legend having the exhaust made and should be back with me by the end of May. When the bike is back I have the fuel lines to run then I will fire it up and balance the carbs then give it a good shake down, that should be fun.

At long last I have the GS back with the exhaust made and fitted.

Also I upgraded the R/R to an SH775 whilst I was tinkering in the shed..

I still have a few minor jobs before I kick the old girl back into life.

The bike is now finished, well at least for the moment.

It runs like a charm and is quite nippy.

And a small video of the bike running. https://photos.google.com/share/AF1Q...dOazJqZkpmSTR3

              Very nice coming together.
Very purple headers - hot hot hot. Check your mixtures asap.

Did CR Racefit make the whole Ti exhaust system or just the can? Looks great!

The headers coloured up on the initial startup and I had the air screws out to far and it was running lean plus the day was 38c.. The bike is running fine now and I have removed the blueing from the titanium headers and now they are all a light blue/ gold and about the same.

                      Update time.

When I checked the bike over after a good shake down which included 2 track days at Brands Hatch motor racing curcuit in Kent UK I found the chain had started to tighten up on a number of the links. The chain set had been on the bike since being finished about 7 years ago so I have had a good life from the set.

The bike has the standard 630 pitch and I thought 530 would be the best way to go.

I went to a local motorcycle parts dealer and they provided the whole kit for ?112.

The kit came with the spacer for the front sprocket.

I also went for the gold bling version..

I rather like the end result.

If you haven't already... I'd re-solder that fuse box & then "pot" it with Araldite. I had problems with a couple of them over the space of a couple of years but none since I did that on one about 8 years ago

I have made a late night purchase....

I have sent the hubs to a wheel builder and after a lot of serching and reading on this forum I'm going for 2.5 X 18 front and 4.25 X 18 rear aluminium rims.

I have looked at and read all the info by Sharpy, Storm 64 and Chuck78 and the detail is fantastic, all the work was done for me so all I had to do was decide what sizes I wanted.

When the wheels are back I will post up pictures.
