Did get out this afternoon for about hour and half, Christmas Day ride.
Weather forecast wasfor 50degF, but didnt seem to be happening, so 42 was good enough.

Not much to report, other than did get out.
Was fairly quite out.

Was out for about hour and half.
Got sprinkled on a couple times, and then coming back home for last couple miles was a light rain.

I recall years ago here on GSR, Mr Leon Focus Frenzy (Texas) would have a long ride most every CHristmas Day.
And now that neither wife nor I have older generation to visit, our only holiday gathering is with our kids and grandkids, all on one occassion. So we had the day to ourselves.

I can understand the idea of cutting back on holiday gatherings now that you and your wife don't have older family members to visit. I often catch up on the news here. It's still important to make time for each other and enjoy the holidays together.

I rode the Harley to a friend's house 2 miles away in my neighborhood on Sunday. Had a drink, chatted about his Mustang build (578 rwhp), then toodled on home.

Progress with the Abomination.... some tweaks this evening. I probably rode it 4-5 times as far as yesterday which isn't saying much... a lap around the block, perhaps a mile or so, then some puttering around town... this thing is stupid fun.

Great Pic, and good to hear of the progress, and taking for a ride.
SOmewhere that I have missed, have you explaind the drive system?.
It has pedals with chain, and engine with chain apparently on other side.... some kind of double bendix hub in wheel?? .... some clutch on engine??

The pedal side is standard bicycle fare. A freewheel hub on the back wheel that is engaged when pedaling forward and disengaged while coasting or pedaling backwards.

The engine side is connected to the other side of the wheel with its own chain / sprockets. The engine has a clutch to disengage power when stopped.

When pedaling in bicycle mode the clutch has to be held in.

Starting is accomplished by pedaling, getting a bit of speed up, then dumping the clutch.

Glen, I was curious, so looked this up, but you probably already know this. According to this, a motorized/pedal bicycle less than 50cc its top speed less than 28 mph doe not need to be registered/licensed. But you are required to wear a helmet.

Thanks Rich. I assumed as such, but good to hear. Our town is loaded with E bikes, and maybe one gas powered one besides mine. I've never seen the cops bother them. It was such a feeling of freedom riding around on it the other night, "boldy" riding thru town on an unregistered gas power vehicle. On the rusty old scooter I was always looking over one shoulder.

Rich, I appreciate the disclaimer. Based on local observation I'm going with I'm good and plead stupidity if questioned... I'm good at playing stupid:ambivalence:

No pics here, (a few on FB) but I poked around town for a half hour plus.. The Abomination is just silly. It pulls nicely from low speeds but at its happy speed I could outrun it on foot. I'd assume that if it was connected to proper 26" wheels it'd have way more topend. I do like the low attitude of the 20" wheels though. I can very easily touch the ground and it recalls my past of thrashing on 20" BMX bikes. It vibrates more then a GS 1150 with poorly synched carbs and features a cacophony of poorly lubricated chains and mechanical noise from the engine. It delivered more smiles... and that's the key of this excursion.
Next is to open up the engine sidecases out of both curiosity and to see what lubrication is needed. It doesn't appear to have any oil fill plugs. And oil the rusty chains some more.

I cut the complete center pull brake setup off of the E bike and may have a rough plan to adapt it. I can only do front or rear. Obviously a front is more effective, but the thought of epic rear wheel skids and slideways action comes to mind. Until my 52 year old self hits something solid....The current rear brake is merely a suggestion.

My "ride" yesterday consisted of firing up my Voyager and riding it up and down my street a few times to run some fresh gas through the carbs. Surprisingly maneuverable at low speed for an 800lb behemoth. Starting it up after it sits for a few weeks requires quite a bit of cranking as the fuel pump only runs with the engine cranking or running, sort of a primitive safety feature to prevent the pump from running after an accident. So you're stuck cranking the thing for a good 10-15 seconds until the bowls fill up. I've also had this newly acquired Virago 1100 up and down the street a few times, it's been peeling layers of the "what did the last guy do to try and fix it" onion, and I've got it down to an electrical issue where the fuel pump doesn't run consistently. With the bowls filled, the bike runs great now after a carb cleaning/adjustment and valve adjustment. So as you can see there's a pattern emerging of "I don't like pump-fed carb setups." Gravity is more reliable, in my experience!

Went for a ride yesterday. Local back roads, bike is well run-in and the carburation is sorted. So a long down hill straight, clear road.... Had chin cam on and when I came to look at it, this is what I found.

To be honest, I think the tacho is a bit erratic. It seems to gain a 1000 rpm at the end without an corresponding increase in speed.
