:concern: I stopped drinking coffee last week, it wasn't planned .

I was running late and decided to skip coffee and drink water , later on drank a poweraid drink and water during the work day, and when I got home had a cheeseburger and fries and a root beer.

That was Thursday, Friday morning I skipped coffee again and developed a slight headache, Saturday skipped coffee , headache got worse...Sunday a little better but still a headache..I git to thinking what brought this in and searched ciffee withdrawals.

I only drink one coffee, probably not even two cups, size of my travel mug.

Could this be ? Cause of headache

As they say. If you gotta ask you already know. The choice is drink coffee or last it out till withdrawls go away. I kicked a heavy cocaine addiction in 91 and it wasnt sesame street.

When I had my second Covid shot { Moderna } the next morning the taste of coffee overwhelmed me . It didn't taste bad it just overpowered me . I quit drinking it on the spot for about a year and a half ..... Don't remember any side effects ..... But I'm back drinking it again ......

I normally drink 5 to 7 cups most every morning, but occasionally don't drink any. I never notice any difference. Also forever, I care not if decaf or caffeinated, if waitress asked regular or decaf, I just say whatever you got the most of.

Caffeine withdrawal can cause headache .
some folks have a gene that makes coffee have a greater impact.

I can have no food for breakfast just coffee and work like mad till I recall while eating the evening meal that I forgot to eat lunch.

if you take sugar esp two or more tsps. The loss of the double buzz is worse.
I one drank 6-7 cups of black coffee per day.
caused tachycardia.

Yes, caffeine withdraw WILL cause a headache.

Learned this some years ago. I drank a fair bit of coffee, mostly at work, during the week. Saturday morning, bright and early, I bolted out the door to do stuff. Come around noon time, a headache would set in. I called this my "Saturday headache". Little did I know, it was caffeine withdraw.

Fast-forward to years of morning migraines, and a good strong jolt of coffee was my savior. That's a story for another day, though...

After a lifetime of coffee drinking, I stopped about 2, 2 1/2 years ago. Switched over to tea. Just one tea bag each morning. No headaches, and it just tastes better.

I had blinding headaches from drinking too much coffee in work, almost exactly 40 years ago.
It was that which set me on to being a habitual tea drinker, although coffee ceased to bother me, even when I was going at it full tilt a couple of years ago.
Not sure if it was the particular coffee the works had or just a general sudden aversion to the higher levels of caffeine.

Back in my early 20s I'd avoid all caffeine during the week and drink coffee on the weekend to stay up, out and about. By Tuesday or Wednesday I'd develop a slight headache and become a bit tired. Several years ago I could drink two pots of coffee over the course of a day and sleep without any problems at night.

These days it's mainly tea- about three cups over the course of a day. It's cheaper, and to my mind has a cleaner taste.
But... If I'm working at a site that has free coffee.... I'm having some.

In my earlier yrs. I'd drink a couple cups of coffee before bedtime and sleep like a baby... Today if I drink coffee after appx. noon, it keeps me awake pretty bad. It's amazing how many things are changed by birthdays!!!

I had headaches all through the night, waking up to pounding throbbing headache every couple of hours, it would go away with only slight headache lingering on.

Had some coffee this morning, about three cups and already feeling better .

Big test will be if these throbbing headaches in the night persist,

If coffee withdrawals are the cause of this ill be happy knowing and yet quite perplexed that coffee would have such an impact on me.

Unbelievable!

Coffee, rather caffiene in general, really helps my Parkinson's symptoms and prolongs the effectiveness of the meds. I'm sure it's a dopamine thing, which caffiene is known to increase. I'm not crazy about the taste of coffee, really, but the feeling of being unlocked from this disease is reason enough to enjoy a cup or three in a day. My movement disorder speacialist said it's not uncommon to hear that caffiene helps as it can prolong the effectiveness of the Sinemet. Sometimes after a cup-o-joe I can skip the meds alltogether. I'll typically have a 10oz cup in the morning and bring a 20oz mug to work, sipping a little before noon but usually finish after lunch. An occasional energy drink is nice too. They tend to not do anything if used on a regular basis anyway.

Headaches from withdrawls? Hmmm, It could happen. I'm not stopping anytime soon, though. Should my habit ever become this bad, I'll likely have to get the patch.

Take the meds regardless to keep the therapeutic levels in your blood consistent. And enjoy the added coffee benefits too.

Decaf coffee doesn't legally have to have much less caffeine so you never know what you're getting. Also the caffeine is stripped using some pretty nasty chemicals so I always go "full fat" or nothing.... :)

Nothing but High octane for me, a min. of 24-36 oz. Sleep like a babe. At my age ya need a little help to get going.

Im pretty sure I was having coffee caffeine withdrawals, pretty much back to my old self. After drinking some coffee this morning.

I wasn't trying to stop drinking coffee just took a few days off.

But now I want to get off the stuff, but I now know its not going to be easy!

I must be one of those people who has a problem stopping, a real bad problem evidently, I had a few horrible days , wouldn't have ever thought it could possibly be that rough.

Jeez coffee , I would have never thought .

Caffeine shrinks blood vessels, and can reduce the throbbing effect of certain types of headaches. Some headache meds contain caffeine, such as Excedrin and Anacin.

As an aside, for many years I suffered migraines, often wakening up with one. Coffee most definitely helped. In the end, my migraine problem was solved by sinus surgery. I encourage anyone that suffers morning headaches to get checked out. Fluid pools at night, when you are laying down. I had what was termed a "chronic" sinus infection. Many people have them; where the infection never really goes away.
