    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

1000G feels "sluggish"

I've never ridden another GS so I am not sure exactly how these bikes perform when running "perfect", but I feel as though the bike may be running a bit "sluggish". I know this thing is 40 years old and all, but I feel as though when I get on the gas, the RPMs start getting up there around 5 and 6 but the bike doesn't pull really hard. I guess the best way to describe it is that the motor seems to respond pretty well to the throttle, but the bike doesn't seem to really take off at any time...its completely stock to my knowledge, and the only thing I think might make the bike feel a bit off is the fact that the carbs have not been vacuum synched...

Should the bike give a pretty hard pull at hight RPM's? Or is it just the nature of these bikes, considering their age and the shaft drive that they aren't incredibly "peppy". It gets going pretty good, just doesn't accelerate too hard. Thanks guys..
 
Have you adjusted the valves? Verified the jets are stock? Freshly clean air filter?
 
Jets are good and the air filter is nice and fresh. I know I need to check the valve clearances, I have just been putting it off but I know its important and I really should check it and just get it done.

-Regarding the clutch slipping...its funny you mention the clutch because thats kinda what if feels like, almost as if when the bike's RPM's get up there it feels like the clutch is partially being pulled in and not letting the gears and drivetrain rip free and unleash the fiery hell that is a 997cc motor :)
 
Okay, I will try messing around with adjustment first, the clutch doesn't let go until the lever is pretty far out, so I will try that. But I'm sure the clutch springs become a bit less springy after sitting compressed for 34 years.
 
They are just as strong and stiff, but they get shorter with time. New stock Suzuki springs will be fine.
