A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hey All,

Just got a sweet 1978 GS750 with 16k. Now, the (oversized) tires have good thread but also have some cracks on them. What are the original sizes and what tires are recommended? Can I run tubeless?

The bike came with an european style handlebar. As I'm 5'7" I could use a little bit more reach and I guess the original one would fit? What aftermarket handlebar would most resemble the original ergonomics? Or would I be better off with something else?

Lastly, the headlight is illuminating not much more that a good candle would. What (aftermarket or not) bulb would work well?

Thanks!
Ride safe!

Avon RoadRiders, AM26. 90/90-19 and 120/90-18 probably. Great tires.

I have a set of stock bars I would trade for those Europeans, PM me if interested.

Check the voltage to the headlight, you need to check the voltage at the charging system anyway, along with all the other neglected maintenance that all old bikes have...

Congrats, that 750 is a great bike.

I would start by checking for a voltage drop across the ign switch.
Headlight? Make sure the charging system is working, - convert to and H4 type headlight- Syl Superstar bulb

SqDancerLynn1, I found a good deal on a Bosch 7" H4 headlamp assembly. What else do I need to do to convert to H4?
Thanks!

That's it

Just fit it in the mount on the chrome ring and plug it in

The stock tire sizes are 3.25 front and 4.00 rear. If you have aluminum wheels you may be able to convert to tubeless but I would continue to use a tube. If you want tires slightly larger, but still within reason for your stock rims, get some 100/120 front/rear sized tires.

What a great forum!
Thanks all for your answers and warm welcomes.
BassCliff, your page is awesome! Great work!
Ride safe and ride often,
Wolverine.
