1980 GS550E Electronic ignition .... issue

Hi, thanks for offer and I might take that up.
Let me think of iv dotted the I's.
Is there anythibbg else this mad issue can be.

What price do you want ?
I can pvt later if wish . Think you can on here.

Just pay postage that will be fine. You can PayPal later. The points plate is KD. Just send me a message for address. Are you on your own or with friends.

Alone.
The thing is we have understood that my bike had dyna not kysosan.
(Spelling wrong as simply cannot remember the names)

So will those points work in my bike when it would not have had them ?

Yes it is from a gs550, kokosan. It is exactly as csml website shows for your bike. You say you have swapped coils from 1-4 and 2-3 and the fault stays on the same cylinder ?. That is confusing as it doesn't sound like an ignition fault. Have you not got European rescue and recovery on your insurance ?. Myself I would try to limp home or at least get to the tunnel to get onto UK soil. Good luck and let me know if you want these parts, I am not at work tomorrow so could post them.

Kokosan = 77-78
Dyna = 78-81 my bike 1980.
This is from the dyna website. Ds3-2 is what they say I need.

I have to go with what dyna say.
If they are wrong I can return it. How it reveals to be wrong
I have no idea.

Cmsl doesn't really have a 1980 e bike ?
Unlike kawadakis I can't get the right part number.

It's so confusing . I so wish someone with the same bike would answer .

I thank you for kind offer but I don't think they are right.
I have no idea if the are interchangeable, if you can , can't , whatever.

I'll stick to my Kawasaki after this.
It's just too confusing doing the simplest tasks you do on other bikes.

I have the other ND type also you could have that if you want. No problem. The difference is the condenser position, ND are one above the other longitudinal to bike KD is side by side across the bike so to speak.

Ok , so they are totally interchangeable ?
I need facts for I buy , order ..... Waste your time more.

Situation now:
Old pickups being sent over
New dyna da3-2 kit being sent over
A new reg from my stock being sent over just on case
( original without sense wire)

I have found a Suzuki dealer. I don't think they are tech
Enough though to sort but they are 3m away.

Q) it won't hurt just running on 3 cyl for a few miles
But what are the plications for many.miles ?
I have done 35 a few months ago.
Does it hurt engine ? Heat distribution ?

Jules the DS3-2 is for ND ignition system, I am sure the systems originally fitted are interchangeable. The Dyna part with the magnet on is not, it is made for ND or KD advancers. I have both types and attach a picture ND is on the left KD on right.View attachment 47497

I am surprised no other members are taking an interest in this issue, the keyboard wizards are normally hot to trot !.

I think it's because his writings are a bit hard to understand (At least for me). Not a problem per se, but people tend to invest their time elsewhere.

Yes i agree about the grammer of his posts, but he must be frustrated being stuck in another country miles from home. He is another GSR member asking for HELP.

Just checked my 550ET - it has Kokusan points ignition. Of course I don't know that this was what was originally fitted, but equally I have no reason to suppose that it has been exchanged at some time. Bottom line is, it works.

Thats what i think Jules 550 may have had before the electronic ignition was retro fitted. I think he has ordered the Dyna for ND type ignition. We will have to wait and hear how he gets on with the repair.

Ok many thanks ! It has rocked me again about the kokosan points.
That I suppose goes with the Suzuki parts diagram but against
what dyna say would / should be fitted .

The ebayer I have ordered my nd dyna from even though paid now
won't communicate . I have been ripped off at the worst time.
I am now trying to get my money back from this thief.

So I now rely entirely on my old pickups for the useless newtronic system
who again ripped me off as won't communicate.
If it is not pickups I would have pulled the carbs and looked
At carb 2. It is possible I could do that in this field
so that is worst case.
But fuel is or was getting through. Mixture ok.

If kokosan are indeed on a 1980 et, I believe it now.
Thanks for looking.

We have found the kokosan Mark on the atu.
Its either nd or kd marked on there.
( the kd is barely legible but if it is not a clear nd then it's kokosan)

Thus I need a dyna and not what is on there website but a ds3-1

Now ordering off eBay !
Don't think illbget before Wednesday. Still stuck on Amsterdam.
And don't even know if this will fix it.... Joy

You say you have spark and you have fuel because the plug is wet, that only leaves compression.
Have you done a compression test?

He had a local garage check compression and its ok. Its got me puzzled also, even swapping coils over and it still wont fire on #2. I would think carb issue ?.

Have you checked the plug itself? NGK plugs don't survive well once they've been flooded and wet with fuel.
