750 ES Project

Started work on my project 750ES. It's been off the road since 1995 and the PO had it stored in various locations, so she's seen some weather. Here's a 'before' shot:

The frame plus other bits & pieces will be powdercoated. All the not so shiny bits (clutch & stator cover, wheels etc) are heavily corroded and will be cleaned up and made shiny again..by me rubbing and cursing I reckon.

Not sure at this point whether to powdercoat or polish the swingarm. The carbs are frozen solid, but another set is on it's way to me for rebuild & transplant. The plastic is in very good shape, and the paint is in surprisingly good condition. You can see that the tank decals are stuffed, otherwise I might have just given the paint a cut & polish, but at this time I plan to have her repainted. The indicator rubber mounts have perished into non-existence, so new ones will be bolted on. The seat will need to be recovered, the brake calipers and master cylinders rebuilt, fork seals, fuel tank de-rusted and lined, new rubber...etc..the list goes on and the costs rise..

Despite the long list I plan to ride her in the new year... :-\\\

Any other Aussies on this list who have parts, or know of the location of parts that I can beg or buy, please contact me, it would be appreciated!

You are going to love that bike once you have it going.
I keep on saying it,,,,,,,,and yes Martha I sound like a broken record,,,,,,,but this is the most underestimated model in the GS series covered on this forum.
They go like stink and they handle very very well. Let that puppy rev and watch it perform.
Many GS riders seem to gravitate towards the larger displacement GS' but these bikes are just a peach!

She's been stripped down to front end, frame & engine. In hindsight, I should have left the rear end on to facilitate engine removal via laying the frame on it's side.

I had originally planned to powder coat the frame and other bits, but (right or wrong) I'll now be sand blasting the frame and using KBS Rust Seal chassis paint + BlackTop to finish the frame and other brackets.


I've been searching for parts that were missing or can't be rebuilt. I had to get new stanchions as the originals had rust & pitting.

After weeks of searching, I found a pair of fork legs with stanchions in perfect condition at a bike wreckers a few hours drive from here. I picked them up yesterday.

Right now I'm looking for a replacement front master cylinder. The original is leaking from the sight glass.

I have one... you need to use your own lever & cover but the rest of it is in pretty good shape. Was working fine.

I have calipers too if you need them....

I don't need calipers as I bought a complete front end off an '82 model (cost me a whole $30). So I now have 4 front calipers. The calipers and discs were in very good condition but the mc has a rusty screw broken off in the mounting bracket and the line connection is at 90 degrees to the piston, so I can't use it. I want to keep the mc to stock as I have custom made SS brake lines.

Got the tank and plastic painted. Yes, it's orange. I had in mind a Laverda orange, but it looks more like Coates orange (other Aussies will get it..)

I used the KBS tank cleaning/sealing kit on the tank, and it cleaned up nice. The paint is orange base with a clear coat. The decals were custom made by David at Signfarm in Brisbane and applied before the clear coat.

I didn't paint it myself, as I wanted it to look good...

I miss that old bike (never had any problems with it, but I had to do a FULL engine re-build on my supposedly "unburstable" 1100....)

Yes - the gauges were from the 1100, so was the front M/C. Lots of stuff was easily swappable between those 2 bikes (good on you Mr Suzuki )

The seat was the original that I had re-covered "Corbin" style by a local upholsterer. Looked pretty sweet with the orange piping.

Thanks for posting the pic of the orange EF. The wife has teased me mercilessly about choosing orange. I'm not sorry I did it!
