Hey guys, My uncle and I are currently rebuilding a 750 and modifying it to be a sort of replica racer. so far went through to motor completely found some high comp yosh pistons in it. Also found it had over sized valves in it. All the motor work was done by RapidRay (lapped the valves, ported and polished the head, matched the intake ports to the manifolds, we cracked the case and replaced every seal, he decked the block, hot tanked the top end honed it, and got custom rings for the pistons.) GregB managed to get some stubborn exhaust bolts out (one was a busted off easy-out). So far everything is stripped down to the frame since it had a ton of holes punched it it by the P.O. for the seat. Found some 29mm pumpers for the carbs and a period correct Yosh pipe. So far we've got a 1100 swing arm fitted and currently rebuilding some 1100 forks to go with it. Along with fitting a 1000S tank and tail section. I plan on powder coating the frame and all the tins. I was thinking a gloss frame/fork lowers and swing arm with a matte/satin tank/side covers and tail section, to give it some contrast. I was hoping for some opinions on the color scheme or any other ideas since this seems to be the hardest part haha. Well here are all the pics.
(all the pics are linked to the larger versions)
When i first got her from the P.O with half ass knee dents: New tank: here are the yosh pistions: yosh pipe: and this is where she stand as of now: we plan on fabricating the tail section of of metal as well for powered coating.
(On a side note I'm not sure if its considered sacrilegious here to be mixing this many years/models since its basically a 77/78/81 but I've seen much...much worse done to these machines.)

Sacrilege would be doing a half baked job on something that has so much potential as this does.

I like it so far... subscribed!

How did you get Ray to work on an 8 valve?

;)

Alright I know it's been awhile, however here are some updated pictures (all the work was done by my uncle who is a professional fabricator):

Looking for a gs1000 tank if you have one please let me know.

Found a gs1000 tank that looked awesome, stripped it down and found lots and lots of bondo, which I cant have since everything is getting powder coated. Removed the bondo and found some good sized dents tried to pull them out but since the metal is pretty thin from pitting and stretching it blew some holes in the tank.

Got some dzus fittings and made side covers for it. Along with the seat pan and tail section doing a little something different for the tail light, you'll see soon.

The 81-82 1100/750 16v tank will fit if the skunk one does... :)

Might look good with your style too.... I'm in process of switching back to my stock tank.

Hey Salty can you clear your inbox. It says you've reached the limit.

Quick question about offset sprockets. Why is it when you use a 1100 swing arm with a GSXR wheel you need a 5/8 offset front sprocket but with a bandit conversion for the 1100E you need a 1/2? Is the wheel centered to the frame? or centered to the swing arm? If it's centered to the swing arm is the bandit swing arm offset by an 1/8?
Here is a progress pic.

Alright small update, bought an earls oil cooler for it and we have to fab some brackets to mount it. Also looking at getting a NHK steering damper from an old H2, would anyone happen to know what stroke length would work? Here is the "yosh" exhaust we picked up, haven't really seen to many other like it but it has some paper work and matching numbers. could be a repop but its still damn nice, doesnt flow right now so we may have to modify it (shorten the mid pipe a bit)

Ill get some pics posted of it welded up. Basically with this it'll be welded just below the neck and the damper will connect to the fork leg.

and here are the 28mm pumpers :twistedevil:

Has anyone had any luck with running vm28's? Let alone ones with an accel pump?

Zooks never had pumpers. Those look to be Kaw carbs.

Yeah, I checked out wgcarbs forums and found they were off a 79/80 Kz1000A. The ebay auction I bought them from said they were pulled off a running kz1000 drag bike. So I'm guessing the jetting is anything but stock (was gonna run through them and rebuild em anyhow). I did some searches and found some old threads Renobruce started, which is how I ended up on wgcarbs. However there didnt seem to be a resolution. Would an accel pump be worth the trouble on a motor like this?

My opinion is no. Based on the fact that the stock VM26s have an enrichment ( choke ) curcuit and they dont tolerate any throttle involvement while starting, I dont really see any advantage to pumpers. The larger carb bore maybe, but the pumper feature really is moot on GSs far as i figure.

Hmmm, alright. I'll just run the re-jetted VM26's probably until the motor is broke in and then slap the pumps on and see how it runs. If that doesnt work do you think removing the pump and running them without it would be an option?

It will run alright with the pumpers..just that theres not really any super awesome advantage to them. I mean unless your really cracking the throttle like a maniac thru the gears then theres not much real effect from any extra pumping of gas by them thats all I am saying.

ahhh ok, that makes me feel a lot better. Cant wait to get this bike rolling and see what a difference those pistons make.

The oil cooler will mount just below it and should be in today as well.

Alright, so I have an 81' 1100 swing arm mounted, with a 4.5" gsxr 750 rim. Do I center the tire in the swing arm? or do I align the rear tire to the front? I did a search but couldn't find anyone doing a 750/1100 swing arm swap with 4.5" rims.
