A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm looking at this bike that has 56,oooKm ,stator and rectifier replaced and some wiring repaired. for $1400. I've read about a certain oil leak and stator problems. Would appreciate any info or knowledge. Thanks

More knowledgeabe people than me can help you if you repost in the discussion forum. If everything is great on the bike that's at the upper end of the price range, perhaps you can negotiate down a bit?

Hi Yukon, Welcome to the GSR. The oil leak problem, that I know of was on the early models on the cam cover. I think it was fixed by the time they came to the 650. The stator papers is on the main page in the Garage. I haven't experienced the problem on my 1978, but I think quite a few have. Enjoy the site. Also, check this out http://www.frappr.com/gsershttp://www.frappr.com/gsers Ray

I have an 83 650 gl and have talked to the dealer about this and he said it was other models and the reg/rec. on the 650 had no problems either. It's when you get into the bigger bikes that it became a problem. Blue book is only 1130 for one in good condition.Go to www.bluebook.com and you can see what you should pay for bikes

i have an 82 GL650L and have had no (knock wood) stator problems... my bike sat for many years, and I resurrected it about 3 years ago. I've put about 3,000 miles on it since then.

I'm sure if it goes, I'll be able to get advice and parts thru help on this site.

Got any pics of it?

I have an '82 GS650L with 49,000 km and no problems in the r/r or stator. When I got it at 46,000 km did all checks in the shop manual, cleaned up all connections, it's been good to me so far.

I agree the price is a bit high. But it seems like in Canada anyway any running bike in decent shape only drops in price to about $1200 - $1500.

Wow! I paid 800 for mine and it needed a new battery and front tire and I have been riding it ever since,.Bought it with 20m miles on it.
