A few trackday shots from Thunderhill West 10/16

This was back in October, Keigwins trackday at Thunderhill West, pouring rain all through Washington and Oregon, then once dropping into California the rain stopped. Temps were around 78-80 ish. I chatted with a couple of guys, one on a 81 Honda CB 750F and another on a red 1980 GS1100ET. They were riding in a different group, took a couple of shots on the phone, but were poorly composed on my part, so I didn't post them.
Had trouble with loading photos to Photobucket took this long to figure it out. "GotBlueMilk" was there taking the photos.

This was a tough tight 2 mile track with super slow hairpins, barely got into 4th gear. The tech inspector warned me that it would interesting (chuckle-head nod) on such a long wheelbased ancient bike. "Be careful out there" were his final words. Took about 3 sessions to figure the place out. We walked the night before the first day. Lots of possibilities to take the wrong line, but it turned out to be a great little mini adventure. My two riding partners and a brother of one, all kept all are wheels on the ground. It was a great experience trying a track in California.

Great pics!
Especially #4, cranked over in the lefthander.
Just curious, how tall are you? Bike looks small under you.

Can't lean over much more without dragging hard parts. Good stuff.

I've thought about taking my old GS to a track day but can't quite do it.

Lovely!!!! Bummer having to hear old bike comments. Like, what difference should it make to them!!!

Why do they blue out everybody's lights/turn signals?

Cool pictures that looks fun

you have to tape over anything glass/plastic that may shatter/splinter should you fall down on the track. Blue painters tape just happens to be the go to tape. You can remove those parts but it's more of a hassle than just taping.

A few more, had to bump start both days after 1st session, because once again my SC grenaded.
This time it only shot pins out, but some plates behind the clutch cracked and one counter sunk screw partially backed out.

Looks like fun alright! And I never tire of seeing Kat pic's either... awesome stuff!

i have followed some of your posts re: your starter clutch....major bummer. surely there is something more going on.....

Awesome!! What tires are you running?

Dunlop 591 SP up front, Pirelli Sport Demon rear.
Haven't had the $ to do GSXR suspension upgrade, but bike feels happy/predictable as is.
Over 125 mph, some wallowing occurs, otherwise feels pretty planted.

Just realised you've got leading axle forks on there with no anti dive... GSX 1100 front end?

They're off a 1980 GS1100ET with 4 preload adjustment ramps on the top of the fork, and some sort of dampening adjustment knob on the bottom.
Have some old aftermarket Progressive springs in there with a PVC spacer, but no emulators.
The originals had nothing, eventhough the 80 forks are ancient, they work really well.
The anti-dive thing was a poorly executed feature, and serves no purpose really.
Does that mean since I have a leading axle, my rake is tighter/shorter than stock, quickening steering on a 60" + wheelbase?
Had a 1994 RF900 for a time with similar no adjustment stock forks and these 80's worked better.
That RF handled poorly with stock suspension.

It also blacks out any accidental signals that might be distracting to other riders.
