Are these carbs off a GS1000 and if so, which model?

I bought a spare set of 1980 GS1000 carbs on ebay a while back and started to strip them down today when I noticed a few differences compared to the set from my GS1000S I just rebuilt.

One of my carbs has a piece broken and wanted to replace one of the carbs with one of these, will these work OK on my GS1000S? or are they a different setup?

First thing I noticed was the different bracket, rather than the wire used to keep the clutch cable in place.

Also the screen on the bottom of the needle valve is flat, not like the little dome on the other set.

Number etched on the side is 49150 and C032 below, my ones have 49100 I believe.

More pictures,

Any comments welcome.

49150 is the callout for 1980 GS1000G carbs per the alpha sports web site.

Edit: Dale above posted while I was typing.

David, those carbs look like the ones from a 1100G, and the float needle seat looks aftermarket. Check the jets against the 1000S to see if they will work. I think there is a difference in one of the air jets, but not sure if that matters or not.

Looking at the list of numbers that I have, the 49160 is from an '81 1000G, so it's quite possible that the 49150 was from the '80.

Looks like they are from a GS1000GT

Looks like they are from a GS1000GT

Thanks for the help with these, so now that I know they are from the 1980 GS1000G, can I still use them?
I can change the main jets to 107.5's and swap out any other jets to match what is in the existing ones, but will they work properly? anyone have experience with these units?
If not I will rebuild them and put them back up for sale.

Those look just like my Mikuni BS32SS's but mine don't have the broken housing on the pilot screw hole.

And I did notice the metal washer for between the mixture screw spring and the oring isnt in the picture of the screw.

Go to the alpha sports site, look up the various jets, needle jets, needles ect and compare the numbers listed. For instance, on the GS1000ST carbs item #40 is p/n 09494-00273 and is a X-7 (jet, needle). The jet, needle for the GS1000GT carbs is an X-6

I can think of no reason they would not work if all the internals are the correct pieces.

Those carbs will work just fine if he swaps over all of the jets from the other set.
The big item to look out for is the location of the idle screw and if it interferes with the cam chain tensioner.

Another thing to look out for is the choke linkage. Is it for left hand control or through the steering stem?
Those can be swapped also.
The flat metal piece serves the same purpose as the wire retainer. It keeps the clutch cable out of the carb linkage.

Thats good..things are a pain to find sometimes. Stick them to a piece of masking tape as you disassemble things.

I just realized my carb with the broken piece does not have the recessed fuel mixture screw and I want them to match on the Canadian Cooley so I will need to use them as a full set.
I will see if I can buy the correct jets if the cost is not too bad, otherwise I will have a set of rebuilt GS1000G carbs for sale.

Thanks for your help Dale, good to get such great help so quickly, this forum rocks.

I doubt the part is broken off unintentionally. Usually people break off a portion of the housing so they can remove the factory plug covering the pilot screw rather than drilling the plug and using a screw to remove it.

I looked through that thread. All I found was 1981 GS1000G and 1979 GS1000S. It's been a long day so I probably missed them.

The 1980 GS1000ST (or GS1000ET) is not in there, I looked through the entire thread as well.

I think I have the spec's for the GS1000 in one of my supplements.

I will check again.
