    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My battery is toast. Time for a new one. Has anyone worked out a lighter weight alternative to the massive stock brick I have in there? It's been in there for 5 years and no longer hold a good charge.

Mine starts a little hard when cold. I only have a few shots before the battery is spent. It takes a little coke play, throttle combination to get it right. Perhaps a jetting/pods downside but runs tit's smooth after the first start.

Keep in mind it's not a daily driver.

Seems the charging system on the GS1100 is a little challenged.

Thanks

Mark

Decent price on Gel ones here... not tried one though.

Hi,

I bought a stock size Yuasa AGM-type battery for my bike. It works great. If your bike is otherwise running fine and the charging system is operating normally, you could get away with a little smaller than stock battery ( a 10 amp instead of a 12 or 14 amp, for example). Some cafe guys do this so that they can hide the battery under the seat. There are other decent battery manufacturers, Big Crank, Odessey, Interstate, etc. There's a short list of battery links in the "mega-welcome".

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

At five years, your battery has given long and honorable service and should be retired with dignity.

Big Crank AGM;

10% off with this code too;

Big Crank batteries cannot be destroyed by conventional weapons (seriously though, they hold a charge forever and spin a bike over like it's a new one).

I saw some Die Hard MC batteries at Kmart. Any one ever check to see if they size one for a GS ?

Edit: I guess they got em....

Walmart

Always found the Wallymart versions being the Energizer series of good value.

Just make sure the box wasn't opened prior as a lot of folks pillage the acid container.

You definitely want an AGM or some other kind of "maintenance free" battery. I was stunned to find how deeply the damn battery is buried in entrails of my 1100E. On all of my G models I flip up the seat and there is the battery. For the E model the process is just short of engine removal.

Don't get anything that requires you to check or fill. And I would also recommend you attach a set of Battery Tender leads and plug in case it does need a charge later on.

With pods, he won't have the typical access issues, but +1 on the AGM with charger pigtail.....this makes the battery a truly fit & forget deal. My Yuasa AGM is entering this winter without any disconnection from the bike in four years...I simply hook it up to the tender, and leave it till spring.
Tony.

AGM on the way.

Yes, the battery is down deep. With pod's and removal of the side covers i can angle it out. Still a bitch.

I have a tender as well. once this thing is in, it will never come out until I recycle it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I would no doubt recommend the Big Crank battery. It's a re-labeled Deka battery which are truly top notch.
