    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bicycling from CA. to MI. to pick up my 1982' GS450T then drive it back to CA.

Please keep us informed as to where you are along the way. I'm so tempted to meet you at the California border.

Mr G, I let him know just before he left.

Completed quite a few tasks today. California Ho! (4:45PM)

I knew that it needed a valve adjustment, the only thing I want to do now is drive it for a while, try to head down to I80 from here then get some sleep

I've got probably 10 or so shims you are welcome to rummage through (these fit 650 and 850's.... IIRC 21 MM in diameter?) If these fit a 450, you are welcome to them. My 'valve adjustment tools' consist of some zip ties and I do have appropriate feeler gauges . I'm in SCS...but am leaving the house tomorrow (Sat.) around 8a, and won't be home until 5p. I'd be more worried about burning a valve over 3k miles than having perfectly synched carbs. I do know my 850 ran MUCH smoother after I adjusted the valves...almost all were tight.

Rustybronco and I have these 4 valves set very nicely and the GS is running much better,it still needs a carb synchronization.I am in OHIO now on Rte 20A West in Swanton will keep going West and looking for a place to put down a sleeping bag and then up first thing in the AM to keep heading West

There was a method posted on this board on how to repair them. Should work to get you home if they fail.

Glad you are on the road. Keep us updated. Great meeting you

I'm in De moine,IA. Right now for fuel, heading out West to CA. The GS is running ok,a bit warm but I'm keeping an ear toward it and downshifting plenty. Thanks Rustybronco for welding the two places on my shifter.

Anymore popping noise from the trailer or did tightening the coupler take care of the issue?

Bill sent me some pictures yesterday. Siad he was in De Moine.

I put this togeter from his pictures:

That there requires a great bit of testicular fortitude! Good to hear he's making progress.

It's nice to know that there are still a few crazies around. Nothing like doing something like this to stir the nuts. Good on ya for trying this with your 450.

If nothing else, it should open the door for plenty of conversation at rest stops...a grand adventure!
