DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bike Of The Month Submissions

We can but since we want folks to accompany the bike pics with some information about the bike, I really would hate just grabbing pics for the sake of putting up a BOTM.

I think it would need to be understood that it wouldn’t be just a picture but also a little bio on the bike 🙂

Trevor, what happens after the first month?

Do the already submitted photos and information get considered again, or does everyone re-submit their entry again?

Seems to me that your suggestion of a BOTM thread would create a big bunch of entries all at one time, and everyone would already see the BOTM winner before it is chosen?

Probably could turn the BOTM thread into a gigantic pi$$ing contest over what bike won.

It really isn't hard to make a BOTM submission, just try it!

Just my $.02 worth.

Yeah, well if that way was working, we wouldn’t be here. Would we win this thread right now lol

We won't be scouring the ends of the earth and expending all sorts of effort simply to create new BOTM entries. While BOTM is a main feature on the website, it is not central to the purpose of this website. And that purpose is to be a central location for providing information and repair advice for old GS's. Anything else is secondary to that purpose.

I originally put BOTM in place as a way for folks who wanted to show off their bikes, to have a place here to do it. So if we don't receive entries, I believe it's either due to a lack of interest or there isn't any new blood working on them anymore and wanting to show them off. And recently we haven't been getting submissions to run this monthly feature. If this continues, then I'll accept it for what it is. I understand, time moves on.

The bottom line is if we can't get submissions, then I'll just close BOTM down to new submissions and we'll consider it archival, just like the Photo Gallery. If someone still wants to put a bike on the website then they would still be able to do it through the Photo Gallery. It just won't have the prominence that BOTM has.

Just me, I know very little about computer stuff and nothing about sending pictures. But for sure always looking forward to the 1st of the month to see the "HOPEFULLY a NEW BOTM"... My opinion, rather than doing away with BOTM if there are no new submissions, just go back through and pick any past BOTM and put it in again, possibly with a caption PAST BIKE OF THE MOTH from Oct, 2018, or from Feb. 2021, or whatever... No doubt would rather have a NEW every month, but if no new ones there, see'in one of the old ones again wouldn't be bad at all. Sure would hate to see it go.

There is a new one submitted for March '26 but no one but me has commented on it. What gives?

Excellent suggestion.

On a related note, we could allow past winners to submit their bikes again, hopefully with a different photo and, perhaps, an updated blurb.

That not yet codified, I feel duty-bound to inform (rat) on a certain member who has, very deceitfully, already attempted to do that. Like every member in good standing, I hope to see this scoundrel brought to justice. Indications are that he lives in my neighborhood. :nonchalance:

I would like to submit, for your consideration, my resurected 1982 GS650E.

I got this bike in late 2024. Saw it listed in the craigslist free section. "Free Junk Bike - Suzuki" No pic attached. I went to check it out and after a few minutes of hacking back some vines and weeds, something resembling a motorcycle started to emerge. It had one of the plastics, the cluster was smashed, buried on its side in mud, one pipe completely submerged and the last few inches of the frame where the light attached was crumbling. My wife was giving me that look like "if you bring this thing home, you better get used to sleeping outside with it".

So an hour later, after digging it out with a shovel, then hooking a chain to the frame and the truck, we pulled it free and loaded it up, thanked the gentleman and went to the car wash to blast off the mud.

According to the person I got it from, he was the original owner. Bought it in '83, would put a couple hundred miles on it a year and always garaged it. In 1990 something happened, (not exactly sure what, either he got sick or injured) and he stopped riding it. Some time in the 90s or so, his wife made him take it out of the garage so she could park in there too so he put it in the bed of a project truck in his back yard, uncovered, with the intention to fix it back up. Around 2000 or so, the bed of the truck rotted out and the bike fell over, off the flat bed and into the mud, where it had stayed since.

Fast forward 20 or so years and there i was, spraying it down in a self service car wash.

After it was as clean as it was getting, I decided to pull the jumper cables out and hook it up to the bike for grins and giggles. When i hit that starter with a screwdriver and it actually turned over, I was blown away. Im not saying it fired up or even tried to start, it just turned over. After nearly three decades of abuse and neglect, it was like she was telling me not to count her out, she wasn't done yet.

So, after doing some modifications to the frame to cut off the cancer, she was about 10 inches or so shorter than she started, but luckily, it hadn't gotten past the rear shocks so the geometry of the bike was still solid.

Obviously, i ripped every last bit of wiring out of her and started from scratch. Hidden button to start with a semi hidden kill switch, Chynatec S ignition, rebuilt the carbs, twice, new hand controls, bars, custom built exhaust and new seat. And this is what emerged from the rust and mud.

She may not be the prettiest, or the nicest, but she'll pull the wheel off the ground in first and bunny hop it in second and she gets me giggling every time she does.

When I first got her I was going through some serious stuff in life, PTSD, depression, health issues. Needless to say, I was in a pretty dark place in my life. Honestly I kind of felt how she looked when I first got her. Just broken and left for scrap. Bringing her back did something for me that no shrink or prescription could have done. It gave me some purpose in life. No matter how little, it was there.

Thats why I named her Lifeline.

Edit: According to the busted cluster, it had about 6k original miles on it.
