A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys,

I've been lurking here for a while but finally decided to become a member as my GS project has been going on for a few months now....

I picked up 2 bikes for $300 from a local estate sale with intentions of making 1 complete bike out of the two, the first one being a 1980 gs550e and the second a 1981 gs550t.

Out of the two bikes i decided the gs550e would be the keeper for me, it had great compression and was in overall better shape. The gs550t had a badly stripped out cylinder head that was beyond repair, although I did swap the wheels and front drilled brake rotor off the 550t because it had brand new tires , cleaner wheels and a better drilled brake rotor. I ended up selling the 550t to my mechanic after stripping everything off it that i would need, including the nice vance and hines 4 into 1 exhaust :D

As of now im having the tank , side panels , rear tail piece and front fender and logo's painted a satin matte black finish. They should be done very shortly, i also had the seat pan sand blasted and powder coated and put a new seat cover on.

here is what I had to put in the following into the 550e

new battery
new chain
rebuild and sync carbs and install dynojet kit
pod airfilter conversion
vance and hines 4 into 1 exhaust
new seat cover
spark plugs
fresh oil and oil filter
progressive fork front fork springs and fluid swap
new clutch cable
new brake lines and cables
full rebuild of front and rear brake calipers
new brake pads
dime city mini gauges (tach and speedo)
mini blinkers (may change to different style)
drag bars and bar end mirrors

The main goal for now is just trying to get the bike on the road and reliable/safe with some cool mods. It hasn't been on the road for probably 10+ years and sat in a garage. After she's on the road and solid i'd like to maybe convert to a bobber style setup which is the direction im going with whatever mods ive put on the bike so far.

Here are some shots of the bike.... Enjoy!!
